D&D 5E (2014) Companion thread to 5E Survivor - Subclasses (Part XIII: Warlock)

Yeah, I barely recognized the UA ones. Almost all of the Warlock subclasses are good, and they are good for different things. Warlock is so modular... you can be a gish, full caster, controller, sneak-thief, healer, or scout. There's usually enough build room to fill any two of those roles.

    D&D 5E (2014) Swashbuckler Rogues

Do you have a ranged weapon, or are you just throwing daggers? If you are not using TWF or a bow, a shield is an easy way to boost your AC several points. One of the armor proficiency feats nets you this, and maybe Breastplate use depending on what's available. If you are using TWF to get a...

D&D General Origin of the Bearded Devil name?

"Bearded devil" has always seemed like an odd name, but I discovered a possible origin yesterday: This series of Burma Shave signs hangs in the garage of the Moody Mansion, an old house (American old, not European old, it's only ca. 1895ish) in Galveston, TX that's been turned into a museum...

    D&D 5E (2014) Companion thread to 5E Survivor - Subclasses (Part X: Sorcerers)

Mix. The magic items were "meh" and heavily caster-focused, while mostly ignoring martials aside from tattoos... when martials are the ones who are more item-dependent for versatility. The ACFs were generally good. Some subclasses, like Rune Knight, Psi Knight, and Psychic Rogue (mis-named...

D&D General DND survey! (gathering data Statistics) Please help, 30 second survey!

It'd be a lot easier to consolidate the data if you used a polling platform like SurveyMonkey. 1) What is your favorite DND class? Warlock 2) What is your favorite race? Human 3) What is your favorite setting (if own setting such as a homebrewed one, just write homebrew)? Faerun 4) What is...

RPG Evolution: When Half the Party Shows Up

I have a party of 4 currently, so if 2 aren't going to make it, I have to cancel. If 3 can make it, we roll ahead, with the 3rd character just "offscreen." This is why I usually prefer a party of 5, but RL... Next game, there will typically be a NPC with the party, and other recruitable NPCs...

    D&D 5E (2014) "I’m that DM. . ."

I'm that DM who has 200+ pages of typed notes for my current campaign (it'll go on the DM's Guild eventually like Castle Dracula did). If the party has a choice, I usually have something prepped for the top 3 most likely choices they'll make. I've been told I'm "hyper-prepared." Next game I'm...

    D&D 5E (2014) Companion thread to 5E Survivor - Subclasses (Part X: Sorcerers)

I wish there was a way to get Druid spells without being a Druid. Sorcerer is probably the right chassis, but I think access to the Sorc/Wiz list AND druid list would be a bit much. Druid-only list means you run into the problem of not enough non-Concentration options. Maybe say "you get the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Companion thread to 5E Survivor - Subclasses (Part X: Sorcerers)

I am DMing a PBP for a 14th level party right now. It includes a Wild Magic sorcerer. He's using Tides of Chaos almost every round for something, specifically to trigger Wild Magic surges. The 14th level ability to roll twice and pick the most beneficial has been pretty useful. What I recall...

D&D 5E (2014) Megadungeon delving as a campaign’s core; is it compatible with modern play?

I did Castlevania (Castle Dracula on DM guild because I don't want to get sued) as a megadungeon of sorts... Levels 3-13, no exiting/buying supplies, but plenty of exploration. There were a few linear bits, but also some times when the players could choose their route, move back and forth...

    D&D 5E (2014) Doing Sponsorships in 5e

I would go with "The sponsor has a specific theme and wants you to follow it." Sponsored by Sigurd Snowson's Skiing Resort? Your goal is to make sure at least 1/3 of all battle spells cast are themed with ice or snow, so that the announcer has plenty of prompts to remind people that their best...

D&D 5E (2014) Help with a monster build- feedback appreciated!

The Paralysis effect is going to be unpleasant for the players (which is fine), but they should shake it off pretty quickly. It's a typical ooze encounter, except it sounds like it's going to take place in a literal wide-open white plain. Every single PC can outrun the ooze (unless paralyzed)...

    D&D General It's Time For D&D Lego!

My 8 year old has a Tie fighter, X Wing, and an AT-ST, and those things break a lot. The animal builder sets tend to come apart also. The cars are pretty sturdy.

    D&D General It's Time For D&D Lego!

I'd do an Illithid or Beholder, but I know somebody out there is going to have a much deeper bucket of parts to do all the moving/angly bits with. Lego sets these days have a lot more specialized parts than what I grew up with. The models seem more fragile, too.

    D&D General It's Time For D&D Lego!

Cool! Content restrictions for submissions typically say "no weapons" but they still do Star Wars, so I'm assuming that's more of a "no modern realistic weapons."

D&D 5E (2014) Hack Your Druid: Alternatives to Wildshape

Ideas: 1) Companion similar to Beastmaster 2) As a caster-druid, the ability to concentrate on 2 spells at once, with some sort of level cap so that one of the two is lower level. One of the big things holding caster druids back is the number of good spells that require Concentration 3)...
