If a combat encounter has become boring for whatever reason then it's the DMs job to make it interesting or end it and move onto the next thing. There could be hundred of ways to spice up a combat on the fly.......
Krackers recently got taken over by ACE Comics. Clifton Rd games is still going, but it doesn't really seem to do RPGs. Good for minis/boradgames/magic though.
Taint - noted. It'll be kept minor - just enough for the PCs to know that this place is a really full-on don't-let-your-grandmother-go-down-there haunted abode of damned evil vile nastiness that ever crawled out of a pscycho's nightmares.
Of course the hordes of zombies sliding on a wave of...
Couple of weeks ago I was in Exeter - nowhere was selling any RPG stuff. Had a chat with the Waterstones counter-dude told him if they got D&D in stock they'd be the only ones in the city.
Go into Exter again last week - ACE Comics got 4e stuff out and Waterstones had LOADS of 4e stuff - like...
Wasn't that me? :)
In this case, 'cause it'll probably only be a minor effect and they'll be able to get rid of it at the end of the adventure so no I ain't gonna tell 'em - though it's only fair of me to drop a couple of hints.
To be honest I gonna be a right b******** in this adventure. A...
Anyone remeber that odd Steve Jackson Killer game? Sort of like a spy LARP. Very odd.
If we're including board games then I could rattle off a load of old GW title: Talisman, Block Wars, Warlock, Dungeon Quest, Fury of Dracula, Rogue Trooper, Judge Dredd ... and what was that insanely...
I was thinking of putting a cursed item into an adventure I'm writing (and hoping to play in September). This thread has got me thinking..... but I'm probably still gonna do it anyway.
It won't be major and I'd expect the players to run with it without whinging. I want to be able to add in...
When a mini-onion crits it does the same damage, but gets to look really good doing it. No real extra crunch, but the ego-boost in front of his minion buddies is worth it.
What???
Player "I eldritch blast it"
DM "Illegal target. Fatal Bus Drive Error. Insert Brain B. Please try again."
Player: "Do I....."
DM "No. Next question."
Player "But the rules say..."
DM "No. K - next players turn."
If all else fails sneak attack the dude's scrotum with a copy...
As many have already mentioned.... the only way for FLGSs to really compete is to become a service industry not retail. Somewhere to go and play, talk, eat & drink, meet likeminded people etc. - and maybe, maybe - buy some stuff.
Trouble is, gamers are not the most socially adventerous of...
Heavy things falling.
Pointy things springing or shooting.
Man-traps, nets, falling logs, crossbows, incendiary devices, pit traps, nasty animals and vermin, caltrops in the dark, oil and fire, blinding powder in the eyes.......:)
Hmmmm...... I guess it's too late now, but if a whole plotline revolved around a cursed item I'd talk to the player first and see if they would run with it for the sake a great story.
Occasional cursed items as a part of a treasure hoard - sure, why not. So long as they're not too damagaing...
