    "Standard Thief S***"

A few lines like these reminded me of a tale from my early days of DMing that's probably five bad DM stories in one: In a god-level campaign, the only PC, my friend Jerod's Character, Oblion, the newly ascended demigod of carefree-ness, encountered a rusted up Tin Woodsman of Oz. The Tin Man of...

If Wizards of the Coast went out of business

Thanks much. I stand corrected. Good to know some kind of competition still exists. I do remember seeing some analysis that suggested that if you throw a brick in a Toys R Us, you stand a better than even chance of hitting a product produced by Hasbro or one of its subsidiaries. Although...

If Wizards of the Coast went out of business

I'm in a moderately large city and the local Barnes & Nobles have a lot of White Wolf on the shelves and a little GURPS and a bunch of d20 licensee stuff. Waldens around here pretty much sticks to D&D and White Wolf, but that White Wolf presence is at least as noticable as D&D. Oh and both...

If Wizards of the Coast went out of business

I may be totally wrong here, but I believe that Mattel is another division of Hasbro. I'm not 100% sure on that. I do remember Hsbro bought out Galoob at some point.

Looking for an old, possibly apocryphal book

I bow to your superior google fu. That second link has not been working for me. Nobleknight hasn't heard of All The World's Monsters as far as I can tell. I prefer print to PDF, but actually have never bought anything online, I just ocasionally check Nobleknight and The Hit Pointe to see...

R1: To the Aid of Falx - Reviews?

Wow thanks much. That is exactly what I was referring to.

Looking for an old, possibly apocryphal book

I remember a 2e era April issue of Dragon (#228?) that had a sort of parody of the First Quest column called Last Quest about embarrasing ways for PCs to bite it. It suggested a garlic bread golem was one. A book of bad fantasy monsters from the 80s is alluded to as the source of the garlic...

    Sustenance - Tracked or Handwaved

Pretty much handwaved in my campaign unless I'm in a really tactical/ killer DM mood. Ditto for illumination. I assume someone living in the dungeon keeps lit torches in the wall sconces. Double ditto for encumbrance. If your PC isn't trying to carry the whole dungeon on his or her back, he...

Why are Lycanthropes less virulent now?

I believe that it's for game balance reasons. Becoming a lycanthrope is a power boost. Giving a free power boost easily is not what 3e is about.

R1: To the Aid of Falx - Reviews?

I doubt this is any significant help, but I recall reading a somewhat old issue of Dragon that had a review of the Egg of the Phoenix supermodule. It seemed generally positive.

    The Slathered Plates of Butterworth

According to Alton Brown on the waffles episode of Good Eats!, you can not make good waffles out of a pancake batter. Just thought I'd mention that.

If Wizards of the Coast went out of business

Good point/ question. I don't know anything about running a company and have no professional writing experience. The next stage of the plan would be: invite the game designers I respect to join with my newly reborn TSR. Offer them good incentives, including ownership of new intellectual...

WotC mistakes that cause you headaches -

    1) The trouble with an untrained balance check is either the DC needs to be low (because your mod is +1 - +4, if you've got a good Dexterity) or your die roll needs to be high. There's also no difference between a Dexteity of 16 and 17 under the new system. That's why I prefer the old roll...

If Wizards of the Coast went out of business

My question is how could WotC go out of business? They're a division of the toy company that rules the universe. They also have a license to print money with their collectible card games and collectible miniatures games, so even if D&D is tanking, there is nothing that could kill WotC. I...

    A Question About Eric Noah

I am demented, but these strike me as rather funny when you add "in bed" to the end of them: 2) Once shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die in bed. 3) Knows all the words to every episode of the Brady Bunch, but don't ask him to prove it in bed. 5) Won the first and only Nobel Prize for...

WotC mistakes that cause you headaches -

As someone that has played 2e extensively and 3e a good bit and owns and is reasonably familiar with most rules sets, my error list is a lot different: 1) What happened to ability score checks (make a Dex check to keep your balance)? 2) Can three saves really do that much work? 3) Where is...
