Co-worker of mine had a similar response. They were fairly new to D&D and 5e (only played for a few years), and had zero interest in re-learning rules they only just became familiar with.

2e's Encyclopedia Magica books are another great source of magic items for 5e games. (One of my players enjoyed the role-playing opportunities from their Ring of Fearlessness, for example.)

To be fair, this is not without risk - I did this back in the 2000s, and it functionally killed my gaming group for years. I don't regret it at all, and the gaming since has been better, but you have to really believe that no gaming is better than bad gaming.

Exactly. If they keep the original in print, it will only sell to new players. But an updated version will sell to new and existing players. Combine that with the things that do need updated to match 5e Revised rules (like the Haunted One background) and it's an obvious choice.
