D&D 5E (2014) What Is The Proper Order Of Attributes For D&D Next?

I don't see Comeliness in anyone's list yet?

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5e Feats

I think part of the problem is that feats are based around giving small mechanical and often combat related bonuses. All benefits are roughly equivalent so there was no reason not to take those that were the least situational (eg weapon expertise, improved defenses, man at arms for 4e). I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Rangers Have Spells in 5e?

I think being martial and having tracking/survival abilities is sufficient for the base class. Multiclass if you want spells. I wouldn't be opposed to them having the 'preferred enemy' again, gaining woodcraft/herbalism abilities to create cures and salves, animal friendship being core, or...

Designating All Daily Attack Powers as [Reliable]

I agree that it devalues powers with the reliable keyword. Perhaps let people have an alternate mechanic, such as spend an action point to give a missed power the reliable keyword.

Advice needed for Homebrew Campaign- Rebirth of Time

I like real choice is my games, otherwise it is just me telling a story. I like engineering key choices that matter, for instance at the end of my last adventures they had the choice of helping the bad guy who currently shares the same goals (there is no way that could end badly) or return home...

D&D 4E What do you like about 4e healing?

I like many aspects of 4e healing particularly scaling with total hp pool and giving many classes some mechanic for limited self healing. I hope these stay in 5e. Like others have said, I find the capacity of non-magical healing, especially the spending of multiple healing surges during back...

    People have the strangest deal-breakers

To answer Reynard, I don't know many of my role playing friend who have never tried an mmo. These were pursued to varying levels of obsession. I chose it as an example of a successful subscription model that many people have no problems paying a lot more for. I have had both, but I don't mind...

    People have the strangest deal-breakers

I like the online DDI tools and lack of online support would be a major hurdle for me to implement 5e. I agree they shouldn't be mandatory with respect to continuous errata, as a substitute for poor game design. But I don't understand people paying $17/m for a mmo subscription grumping about...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5E have Healing Surges?

Even removing healing surges, having healing effects scale with the total hp of the target is a good thing to come out of 4e.

Vancian? Why can't we let it go?

Reading the transcript I'm sure the idea of Vancian + at wills via feats will make no one happy. Having at wills to fall back on defeats and neuters the Vancian concept. But it looks like the question is answered. Thread over. Magic fail aside, I like some of Monte Cook's other ideas based on...

    Level of Play

Like many I think, most games I have played or run have started at level 1 and done the first few levels up to 4 fairly quickly (10-15 sessions). After that progression slows. I find 6-8 is a good sweet spot for most editions as you are heroic but not able to solo dragons or take down a demon...

    People have the strangest deal-breakers

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5E have Healing Surges?

While I appreciate the intent of healing surges and I think they are mechanically balanced I have the same problem as them and hp - they are both such abstract concepts the very nature of wounds and healing has always been more like a game than a simulation. To agree with prior posts, I think...

    Psionics

I hate psionics as the flavor is more sci fi than fantasy. I suspect they will make a module at some stage. Cause 5e's gonna be modular.

Vancian? Why can't we let it go?

I like the idea of a Vancian fighter ;) You can only swing your sword once a day at level one, but when you do you can kill 2d6 hit dice of monsters.

D&D 5E (2014) Drop the rotating spotlight model of niche protection for 5e

I also like the warlord both for the idea of a tactician and leader, but also as a healer that isn't loaded with all that faith baggage many players don't want to be lumped with. You can argue about the mechanics and execution (and many do), but I think the concept is a good one.

D&D 5E (2014) Drop the rotating spotlight model of niche protection for 5e

To the OP, I agree almost entirely with your analysis, except I would argue the lack of focus or mechanics for non-combat in D&D has existed from day 1. As a fun exercise suggested by Geeknights, go through the D&D character sheet of any edition and highlight anything that relates to combat. I...

D&D 5E (2014) What happens if 5E fails to unite the base?

D&D next will never unite the base cause the base is old and often happy with their game. How many 4e, Pathfinder and even 2e posts do you see saying if D&D next lacks component X of their system they won't play or even that they are completely happy with their current game? WOTC made and...

    The Keep Rule

I like the idea of incorporating estates, holdings and followers/troops as paragon and/or epic tier rewards. Yes, many DMs do this already, but one valid criticism of D&D (particularly 3e and 4e) is that there are chapters of rules on combat and stabbing things in the face, but there is little...
