Best Version of Call of Cthulhu

Here's the difference: Chaosium's rules are easy to learn--very intuitive and straightforward. The game's been around for this long (since the, what?...early '80's?) without substantial changes, so it must be doing something right! As some have mentioned, the combat rules can be annoying...

[Encounter] Bones of the Beast (level 1)

That seems pretty cool! My only criticism (if you can call it that) is the snow drifts: they're described as the "white squares" but the map is made up of a lot of white squares! I'm guessing that you're talking about the white squares atop the brown trail squares.

    Rogues and Melee Basic Attacks

The Forgotten Realms Player's Guide has the Intelligent Blademaster feat, which allows a swordmage to use his Intel modifier instead of Str modifier when making a basic attack with a melee weapon. I see no reason why that can't be used for Rogues and Dex, Clerics and Wis, and Warlocks and...

[Dreamscarred Press] Third Dawn Campaign Setting Released

Seriously? 3.x? Damn. That just went from "must have burnin' hunk of love" to "maybe if there's nothing else 4th-edition-related to purchase first". I really hope you plan to expand on phrenic shards and other 4th edition material.

D&D 4E Homebrew RPG (4e based): Heroes of Legend

While I haven't had a chance to peruse this yet, just wanted to say Thank You for sharing this!

D&D 4E Classless 4e and adaptation for the Superhero Genre

Sorry, I should have specified--in M&M the players start at 10th level right out of the gate, unlike D&D where the characters start at 1st level. ;) They don't gradually build to their power level, they begin the game with it! That does change the approach to character-building...

D&D 4E Classless 4e and adaptation for the Superhero Genre

Scarik, this is very similar to the thought process for Mutants & Masterminds - PL5 (or so) being "street level" heroes VS PL10 "standard" heroes.

D&D 4E Classless 4e and adaptation for the Superhero Genre

I have SAS, as well as M&M, both loosely based on the 3.x game rules. We're talking specifically about 4th edition rules, because as good as M&M and SAS are, 4th edition rules absolutely scream to be used as a supers game engine.

A thread so enjoyable I subscribed to it. Nice job, everyone!

D&D 4E Classless 4e and adaptation for the Superhero Genre

I'm anxious to see how you've thought of "amping up" stats. I mean, an 18 STR won't cut it, obviously, if you want to have Terrax punch The Thing across a rooftop and through 4 Manhattan office buildings.

One Bad Egg: "Hatching the Best Stuff for D&D"

So far, the Bad Egg PDFs have been fun and well-crafted, yet with a very reasonable price. I look forward to more! Yay Bad Egg!

    Marking, bloodied etc.

We use tiny hair ties--very small-diameter elastic circlets--that we got at Target (if you have one nearby). They're considerably smaller than normal hair ties--they'd fit snugly around a pinky finger. Since they're elastic they stretch around weird-shaped or large minis. When we hang them on...

New Class Concept: Shadow Knight (Level 1 + Feats)

Agreed. I bookmarked the thread, but don't have a strong opportunity to playtest the class. I like it, however!

    D&D 4E 4e is boring?

I feel your pain. Not to start a 4th Ed-bash, but I also played a rogue. I came up with a concept LONG before I rolled dice, and there were many parts of it (*coughmulticlassingcough*) that were lackluster in 4th ed. It was boring....all the other players laying a swath of destruction and...
