    Dice and Odds

Indeed. It's gratifying that others appreciate my foresight. Also, it is a simple, direct system that compares the level of a PC with the level of a target. Since I am going to use a simple d6 + stat mod for skill rolls, I wanted to use the 2d6 + mod for more complex situations where a bell...

    Dice and Odds

Okay, so that means: 3+: 97% 5+: 87% 7+: 58% 9+: 28% 11+: 8% One of the things that I'm messing with is making a bard class for B/X using the AD&D one as a starting point. Rather than have a charm % skill I was thinking of using a variant of the clerical turning subsystem as a charm subsystem...

    Poll - I'm over 25 and I've read....

Really? It is certainly interesting; the world has layers of complexity, magic and technology overlap, the characterizations are good. But, it seems that Gene deliberatly made the story difficult to understand.

Sometimes, a skeleton is not just a skeleton.

I agree with you. However, isn't there a chapter in the 3.5 MM or DMG which addresses this very issue? There are very specific rules for adjusting or modifying monsters. The necromancer in question can make 1 HD skeletons or 4 HD skeletons. They can have a cloak of shadows that grants them some...

    I need a mansion

I need a mansion for my players to trash this weekend. After the BBEG escaped from my players as I was running Sellswords of Punjar, they have tracked it down to a strange Shar-esque cult in the poor quarter. The cult leader (a certain warlock they had a run-in with earlier) has holed up in an...

High magic, low magic, it's all relative.

Yes, but not really through magic items. There are two axes as I see it, power and commonality. Glorantha, and the RuneQuest system, are very definatly high magic. But, the magic is weak. You have to be a high priest before you get a spell that affects more than one person at a time. Every...

Forked Thread: Magic assumptions in the campaign

Cashier's check. You can refuse payment on a credit card, if you even had one that could handle that kind of purchase. The store I was in had 8 pieces that I could see. But, yes, I think I am agreeing with you in principle. I have them in my campaign, but they are well hidden, only available to...

Forked Thread: Magic assumptions in the campaign

And, keep in mind that there are stores where you can walk in, select some jewelry, lay down $1-2,000,000 and walk out with that single item. These stores do not have a storefront. Their doors are simple single door glass affairs with a name frosted on it, like "Winslow's on 32nd". Now, these...

    Paladin/Warlock - Combined Implement?

It is an advantage but how much of one I'm not sure yet. Given how feat intensive mult-classing is, it's probably a wash. You are only expected to pay for one implement at a time and you are spending a feat for each warlock power. As long as the synergy isn't too much I would expect it is fine...

    B/X Campaign Development

I used to run exotic components either as consumables or components for enchantment. Having a piece of earthbone (magic coal) allowed you to do +1 per die of damage with a fireball or other fire spell, for example. Or, you could use it to fuel the forge fire for your shiney new flametongue.

    B/X Campaign Development

I was thinking of something similar where all skills are 1d6 + Attribute bonus, target number 6. This maps fairly well to the open doors roll in AD&D with strength, for example. Elves would get +1 for searching for secret doors, &c. I've been working on an AD&D campaign myself, and I have been...
