    D&D 5E (2014) Use of Investigation

That which is learned can be unlearned. It can take a bit of training, but it can be done. Once my players found out that things of consequence can indeed happen without die rolls, and a bad die roll could lead to a bad consequence, automatically wanting to roll isn't really a thing. Now my...

    D&D 5E (2014) Use of Investigation

Perception is for finding things. Investigation is for figuring things out. Finding the secret door uses perception. Figuring out how it opens is investigation. Finding a trap is perception. Figuring out how to bypass/disable it is investigation. Finding a clue is perception. Figuring out...

D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Thule - GM Companion - Optional Rules... what would we like to see?

Dungeon Crawl Classics, an S&S OSR-esque RPG by Goodman Games. The DCC adventures are on the strange end of the S&S spectrum, but would fit in Thule, as well.

D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Thule - GM Companion - Optional Rules... what would we like to see?

That's pretty cool. Certainly a more dangerous version of the wild magic table. I think, personally, I'll just adapt DCC's tables for something a little more permanent.

D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Thule - GM Companion - Optional Rules... what would we like to see?

Agreed. Something akin to DCC RPG's Corruption table would be awesome.

    D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Thule for D&D 5e is out in PDF!

Why not just do it here? More potential eyeballs than a dedicated forum. It's not any more off topic than starting a thread about FR. Just put a [Primeval Thule] header in front.

D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Thule for 5th edition: Wizards I hope you are taking notes.

It's also possible that, in a world this ugly, the PCs probably aren't all sunshine and lollipops. Sure, playing the type of sorcerer that Conan inevitably defeated at the end of his books is pushing it, but being a party of ne'er-do-well types fits the setting. There's also the "well meaning...

D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Thule for 5th edition: Wizards I hope you are taking notes.

Interesting. I'm the opposite. When I'm reading, I prefer pdfs, as I most often read from page 1 through to end on my tablet. At the table, I can thumb through a book a lot faster than find a page on pdf, especially pdfs that are poorly bookmarked (as this one is, unfortunately). But even...

D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Thule: How to Introduce Players to the Setting

While they might not want to read all 30 pages, the first 2 or 3 would do it. Then, if they want to read more, they can.

D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Thule: How will you handle addiction?

I know you ask, "besides roleplay," but I think that's the best way to handle it. Make it the character's flaw, and award inspiration when the player uses it as a drawback.

FANTASY GROUNDS Goes 3D With TABLETOP CONNECT

I don't know of any VRPG video games where the characters are minis. This is more like 3D chess. Or a digital version of Dwarven Forge. Just because the "tiles" are nicer looking than a flat jpg map shouldn't push players away....

    D&D 5E (2014) Char Ops forums: Something I wish hadn't come over.

Your first two examples are competitive, the last one is cooperative. Do you think in team sports, everyone else on the team hates the star player because he's really good at what he does? I can understand not wanting to constantly play against someone better than you, but having that person...

What made you stick with 3.x?

Oh, yeah, for sure. I played an Oracle in the last game I played, even though I just have the core book, using the pfsrd. I do prefer using books when playing, though, and pdfs when reading a game book.

What made you stick with 3.x?

I don't, but if I did want to run a d20 game, I'd go with 3.5, just because I have a lot material for it, whereas I only have the core book for PF.

Elven Trance, Spell Scrolls, Grappling & More: New Sage Advice

It is an ally, however, of those that dislike PC christmas trees. Stacking isn't much of an issue unless magic items are handed out like candy.

Elven Trance, Spell Scrolls, Grappling & More: New Sage Advice

Where is the line for this, though? To be thorough, he'd need to list every single thing a PC could possibly do. That's not the intention. The rules can't cover everything, the DM needs to be able to cover the corner cases himself with a ruling. I think most people would agree that studying...

D&D 5E (2014) Why do you play 5e? What game did you come from?

Not that unusual, I don't think. The OSR movement picked up a lot of steam in the late 00's. Like I stated in my post, I went from ACKS, which is a B/X clone, to 5e, having played 4e and PF before that (and 3e before that, 2e before that, 1e, blah, blah, blah).

    Character Death

I did this when I played 3e. It made for a bit of a "death spiral" in the adventure paths I ran (RttToEE and AoW). In fact, there were a total of 32 PCs on RttToEE between the 6 players (1 player made 11 different PCs - he's risk averse :)) and "only" 19 in AoW. Now days, I don't count XP...

D&D 5E (2014) Why do you play 5e? What game did you come from?

The system I "came from" is tough to nail down. Literally, it was ACKS (or OSR in the poll), as that was the D&D-style system I was running before I started my 5e game. But I did play 4e and PF (not a lot, but they were played in the time after 5e was first announced). As for why 5e, I agree...

Request: Move the Optimization Section back into the General 5e Section

Okay, that's understandable. I was just hoping the old "All D&D" link could have been made into an "All 5e D&D" link. If that's not possible, I understand. Also, speaking for myself, I don't mean to sound impatient. Just throwing out some ideas.
