    Expertise justification?

Have you played at epic or near-epic levels before these feats were introduced? I have, as a high level implement using cleric. Missing 70% of the time against challenging opponents is not a fun play experience; it requires you to plan on missing when you choose your actions. That's not good...

    Expertise justification?

I don't think breaking the attack bonus thing down simply by tier makes sense. The fact that WotC pegged the bonuses at 5/15/25 instead of at the tier breaks is meaningful. The point of the fix isn't just to make the average over the whole tier more comparable to the average over another whole...

D&D 4E Is character death acceptable in 4e? If so, how often?

Character death so far in our 4e play has been much rarer than in prior editions, where death was a near-constant. I find the odd 'you almost never lose just one character' thing a little hard to get used to, but I think in practice it works out pretty well. Nobody likes to be that guy who dies...

Anyone know why vulnerabilities are gone?

There are good game balance reasons to keep vulnerabilities and immunities to a minimum in 4e. Start with the fact that characters have a fairly minimal number of powers compared to earlier editions. A character who picks all fire powers, for example, in order to stick to a theme, could just be...

    Helpless doesn't Hinder

I don't think there's any reason there couldn't be a condition that works exactly as helpless does in the PHB; the issue is what used to be 'helpless' in 3e is now called 'unconscious' and we are attaching our 3e/dictonary definition expectations to this condition. They probably should have...

    Metallic Dragons: Unaligned!?

Except you can't really apply that fallacy to the discussion, because the alignment issue is not a mechanical issue. Whether or not it is broken is entirely subjective; there are no rules issues raised by this change, only flavor ones. In fact I would question why this thread even appears in...

One class parties - which would work?

I think there's some kind of cooperative curse feat in Arcane Power that would alleviate the curse-clog issue in a warlock party.

monk preview: another expertise feat - talk about stealth errata!

Late 3.5e, polymorph change (the same people were in charge then, so it should count.)

    Appropriate vulnerability for Fey?

It is hard for players to do, but necrotic damage is probably the appropriate 4e choice; the ghaele and bralani from the MM are already vulnerable necrotic.

    Experiences with Balhannoths

It is a neat monster, design-wise. What I find odd about it is that fluff-wise it is more of a random/filler encounter monster, something that you encounter on your way to somwhere rather than as a climactic fight, but it really has the potential to overshadow whatever you do for an end fight.

Un-solo-ing Dragons (My Players Stay Out, please!)

Draconomicon has some regular and elite dragons - example would be the pact dragon that githyanki ride around on, which is a normal level 13 skirmisher. Take that, maybe give it a template, bump it up a couple levels, then do variants with powers from the other colors. It will take a little...

    Hardest encounters

Add my voice to the mad wraith chorus, especially if you lack radiant damage in the party to shut the aura down. They daze you, so they're basically impossible to get away from, and people they kill come back as more of them, so when you come back for revenge the fight is even worse.

All monsters equal? Goblin Warrior vs Kobold Skirmisher.

If you want a somewhat more egregious comparison, check out the level 1 skeleton minion vs. the level 2 zombie minion. The zombie gives up an awful lot for that one extra point of damage.

Minions with 1hp - Can anyone justify this?

This is why minions have 1 hp: http://youtube.com/watch?v=P8oz_B2aGn8

    Dazed & Wight actions

Dazed is actually quite fantastic; it just happens that the wight is one of the worst targets for it.

    'Holding off the horde' encounters

I do think it is important to include some non-minion monsters so that the strikers have something to do.

    Strength Paladin Build suboptimal?

I'm playing one now and multiclassing warlord to pick up things to fill the gaps.

Will taking the same encounter power twice break anything?

The powers are all pretty close in power level to each other but there are often ones that are a little better for a particular build or playstyle, so allowing someone to double up would almost certainly be allowing them to be a little more powerful. If you're ok with the game balance risks...

Gain vs Receive Temporary Hit Points

Uh yeah. Way to contribute with your first post there. Anyway, my feeling is that you shouldn't be treating gain/receive as different in this situation. Just go with the basic 'same source stack, different source no stack' rule and you should be fine.

D&D 4E 4e's Inorganic Loot System: Yay or Nay?

The magic threshold system is just intended to keep the numbers working balance-wise. It doesn't say anything about their items being magic. The same magic threshold system would apply when adding a magic weapon to something that usually fights unarmed - that doesn't mean that the githzerai...
