Just for fun: What;s youyr favorite Wiz build

As my warmage said in game, "I can cast Earthquake; we know where he lives; why are we debating this!?" For summoning, the thing is to look at what each monster can do. Can it grapple, trip, swallow? Plus, every round that the BBEG spends killing the summoned critter is damage your cleric...

Just for fun: What;s youyr favorite Wiz build

My wife recently played a high level summoner. Dropping a pair of fiendish t-rexes can certainly have a huge impact on the battle. Add in things like Rapid Spell or Time Stop and it gets even crazier. I have found the best way to control a wizard is not through monsters or trying to beat them...

Just for fun: What;s youyr favorite Wiz build

I don't know if I have a favorite wizard build. What I really like is necromancy but core D&D doesn't do that too well, especially for wizards. Probably too many hours playing Diablo 2 growing up. ;) But I'd like to throw my 2 coppers in anyway. LN Human Wizard (Generalist), follower of Wee...

Illumination in Undardark cities and homes

If you want more official sources, you could look at Drow of the Underdark, a 3.5 book, or Underdark, a Forgotten Realms setting book. I imagine the drow would use their darkvision. Whatever light they would have would be dim and reserved for whatever slaves they take that don't have...

Giving longer darkvision ability to Yochlol

Dark Hunter will also give you a death attack! :)

Giving longer darkvision ability to Yochlol

There are a handful of prestige classes that give darkvision or extend your existing darkvision. Dark Hunter and Pale Master leap to mind but I don't know if those work with what you want.

    Fighting like Darth Maul

Go with an magical adamantine longsword. The DMG/SRD says that about 30% of magic weapons give off light as a torch. Ask your DM if you can flavor the light (Red, blue, green, etc). You can now have a glowing sword that can cut through anything. To go with the warrior magician feel of a...

    Isn't that just Cleric 20? ;)

    Player vs Player PC death

Where are you currently? if you're in a town/city, then use this to your advantage. You're a cleric. Go to your temple and inform your superiors. Go to any friendly temples and tell them what you know and suspect. If there aren't any temples openly friendly to your religion then visit at...

Sanctify Martial Strike and Bane Property

Does the Sanctify Martial Strike feat and the Bane weapon enhancement stack? Sanctify Martial Strike feat grants an extra 1d4 damage against evil outsiders and evil undead. If I have that feat and an evil outsider bane weapon, would I deal (regular damage) + 1d4 + 2d6?

Questions about an item - Boccob's Blessed Book

FWIW, in the last game I played in, the DM wanted to do a quick check to see if we were close to WBL. If I did not include my spellbook's value my wizard was under wealthed. If I did I was over wealthed. Yes, the blessed book is a great boon to your wizard but it also lets you BE a wizard...

    Paladin Mount as a cohort

A player in my campaign wants to take leadership and wants to designate their special mount as their cohort. The player is a paladin/fist of raziel. Essentially, he's paying a feat tax to keep his mount relevant. If the mount is made a cohort, the DMG suggests that they be given a +2 LA. And...

Questions about an item - Boccob's Blessed Book

The big thing about the Blessed Book is that you can scribe spells into for "free". Wizards are massive gold sinks. ;)

    Against Scry & Teleport

First, tactics are a two way street. If you scry and die the BBEG's lieutenant then you can expect him to do the same to your loved ones. Second, as the DM you can do all sorts of fun stuff to prevent scry and die. Maybe the villain's lair is in a pocket dimension located in a single grain of...

Do You Think Encounters Should be Difficult?

I'll add in that I like encounters to vary in difficulty. Being up against a tough monster can be fun. Especially if there are things you can work with besides your character sheet. Can I use the terrain to my advantage? What if I try to lure the monster here? Those are some of my favorite...

    Tiers of play

Not quite what you're asking for but I've seen a few arguments that Middle Earth and E6 for 3.5 make a good match.

Rules oddity - Martial or Simple weapon

I've always allowed players to do this and just called for the improvised weapon penalty. I never thought about simple vs. martial part of it! How about you move the damage die down one and call it a nonlethal club or something like that.

Can a neutral cleric of a neutral deity cast good/evil lawful/chaotic spells?

I had a friend that played a TN cleric and had access to all of the alignment spells. He was also able to be affected by them all. As the story goes, he used Word of Chaos on some devils and wound up stunning himself in the process. What if you ask your DM if, even though you are TN, that...

    Rules question - P from E v Possession

I would say that Protection From Evil does not work on Magic Jar. Magic Jar is not a charm or compulsion. You're not exercising some sort of mental control over a person. You've torn them from their body, shoved them into a gem and taken over their body like a puppet. You could always try...

    DMing an intelligent item

If the wielder and the item are getting along, then the item is happy to be used. It may shout out a warning if someone is sneaking up but other than that, just keep it in the background. Now if the item is not happy about its wielder, then you can do a lot more. ;)
