    Unexpected Deaths

The worse has happened. You've just gotten ten minutes into a session and a PC has died. Maybe the dice were against them from the get go. Maybe the consequences of their actions finally caught up to them. And to top it off, they've crossed a point of no return and can't just hop back to town...

D&D 5E (2014) Does your city have a cleric NPC and what can he cure?

Eh, it depends. Does the player want to bring that character back? Then I'm sure we can swing something. Maybe the next adventure is bringing that person back from the dead. However, I'll be honest, I hate it when a player is sidelined for most of a session, if not multiple ones. Death already...

D&D General The Kobold King AP

I've started running an adventure for my group and I'm using Hollow's Last Hope (D0) as a starting point. I'd like to move from that into Crown of the Kobold King (D1) and into Revenge of the Kobold King (D1.5). My plan to link this all together, which is alluded to in the modules, was that the...

How to justify bikini armour in your game.

My take on it has always been "It's your character. (S)he can look however you want". If that means bikini armor, go for it.

When another player builds a clone of your character.

Years and years ago, without talking to each other, a friend and I both showed up at the table with half elf rangers with favored enemy (human). We laughed about it. I think we did differ on our skill selections and combat styles.

D&D General Use and abuse of an item

I have a question. If you can just use the standard telekinesis to violent thrust someone into the air then why does the Master of the Unseen Hand prestige class (Complete Warrior) get a class ability called Fling Skyward which does exactly what you're talking about. Or is this some sort of...

    New to DM'ing

Have fun. For every piece of gaming advice out there, I guarantee there is a game, maybe with people you know, that would be ruined by it. Maybe you want to ignore encumbrance. Maybe your wizard wants to keep track of every bit of string and bat guano. Maybe the party wants to spend the entire...

Why do people still play older editions of D&D? Are they superior to the current one?

I started playing with 3.5. My group is currently playing 5E. I prefer 3.5 over 5. Does 5E have things I like? Yes. Does it have things I don't like? Yes. But the same can be said for 3.5. It all comes down to your and your group's preference. "Edition wars are like telling your friend his...

    D&D General War paint

IIRC, The Arms & Equipment Guide had different paints that you could put on your body. I'm away from my books right now but I think you could only have one applied at a time and they didn't take up a slot. I would treat it as an oil you apply to yourself, I think. Call it Barkskin +3 and Curse...

Largest Party Size you have ever Participated in/DM'd?

8 is the largest I've DM'd for. It was awful. I felt like I had a hard time making sure everyone had something to do and had time in the spot light. 6, for me, is the tipping point. I can be great or it can be awful. I prefer smaller groups. Give me 3 or 4 players. 2 is doable but can be tricky.

    D&D 3.x Cookie Monster for 3.5 dnd

Here is a rough stab at it. I hope this gives you a place to start. Cookie Monster Medium Outsider (Muppet) HD: 20d8+100 (190 hp) Initiative: +5 Speed: 30 ft (6 squares) Armor Class: 16 (+1 Dex, +5 Natural), Touch 11, Flat Footed 15 Base Attack/ Grapple +20 / +23 Attack: Gobble + 24 melee...

What do you find hardest when running RPGs?

I haven't found any articles on high level play. Though there are countless blogs and forum posts on the topic. I recall the 3.5 DMG gave a brief, a few paragraphs at most, on the difference between low and high level play. It suggested that at high level you shouldn't be afraid to throw...

What do you find hardest when running RPGs?

High level play is always a bit of a headache. I don't know how many times after a session I've looked at my notes and realized the monster had this Super Cool Awesome Ability that I completely forgot about and never used. Spellcasters with a lot of buffs are even worse. You'd probably hate...

What do you find hardest when running RPGs?

I try to give everyone equal time in the spotlight. I, fortunately, have a group of players that are all comfortable being the center of attention. One of the first things I ask my players is for them to come up with a goal. What do they do when there are no dungeons to go into? The three I...

What do you find hardest when running RPGs?

For me, the hardest part is making sure everyone has their turn in the spotlight. Player 1: Who murdered your brother? - Developed over the course of the campaign. Player 2: How did you acquire these eldritch powers? And what are you going to do about your arranged marriage? - Plenty of...

    The Sandbox and the Railroad

I think the bigger component of Sandbox vs Railroad is "Know your players". I've been on rails were everyone at the table had a wonderful time. The DM wanted us to do X and X was what we were going to do anyway. I've been in a sandbox (litter box?) were the DM expected us to just go do...

Common cold count as a prestige class prequisite?

Maybe, and I mean MAYBE, if you have a generous DM you could use that to count towards the special requirement for Cancer Mage.

    Beginner adventure?

The Song of Fodin is a good first level adventure. It's written for pathfinder but you could run it in 3.5 with minimal effort. The party is stranded on an island after a shipwreck and needs to find a way home. http://www.necromancers-online.com/Downloads/The%20Song%20of%20Fodin.pdf

    Just for fun - A Bard-Bear-ian

Basket of the Pic-a-nic: This ordinary wicker basket is lined with a blanket. Reaching into the basket provides the user a complete meal. The exact contents of the meal are up to the individual when they draw forth their meal. The food is rich, hearty, and is enough to feed an adventurer for...

    Just for fun - A Bard-Bear-ian

Bards get two cantrips per day at first level. Though their spell progression is wacky.
