    Rules Clarification: Outer Planes

We never did any plane-hopping before 3E. In previous editions, if you left the material plane, your magic items got weaker? That's kindof a cool mechanic, if you ask me! You could then have players that need to quest for "Outsider" magic items and such before they can go hunt down that demon...

    D&D 3.x [Dragon] #307 - 3.5 Changes: Some we know, some we don't...

Also WRT Hold... personally, I'm much more worried about my PLAYERS surviving against Hold than I am my monsters and such. I think this mechanic will make Hold less lethal for players, and it will make fights more interesting. Just think about it... no more worrying about whether or not the...

    D&D 3.x [Dragon] #307 - 3.5 Changes: Some we know, some we don't...

Good point... I probably shouldn't go into any of this now, since it's been stated that some spell levels may be switched around. With these listed changes to Harm, I wouldn't be surprised if it moved down to 5, and Slay Living went up to 6, to be up there with Disintigrate, which I think is...

    D&D 3.x [Dragon] #307 - 3.5 Changes: Some we know, some we don't...

Well, a 15th level fighter who rolls AVERAGE hit points at every level (5) and has a +2 Con bonus (being very conservative here...) will end up with 113 hit points. This means that if he saves, he's a little more than half-dead, and if he doesn't, it means he's at 1 hp. It LOOKS like a major...

Full round attacks and delaying an action.

Wow. Our whole group is going to have a big uproar over this one. Well, we played flanking rules wrong for over a year before we got THAT straight, so I suppose this isn't a big deal. ;) Thanks everyone for clarifying that for me!

Full round attacks and delaying an action.

Ummm... since when can you use your multiple attacks to target different opponents? As far as I know, the only times you can attack multiple targets with a full round attack is with Whirlwind, Cleave, Circle Kick or other similar feats. A Fighter with a +15/+10/+5 attack bonus can't say "Okay...

Full round attacks and delaying an action.

Nope, not legal You can't "save" your extra attacks. By making one attack, the fighter has taken a standard action instead of a full-round action to attack. However, readying an action is a standard action, and the fighter can't take two of those a turn, unless he's hasted. He can move up to...

Standing up - AoO in D&D?

You can always crawl away 5' and standup as a MEA, then ready an attack if the tripper comes next to you again. Eh, wait a second, I seem to remember a previous thread where it was decided that you can't combine a 5' step with the stand-up action - so in that case you wouldn't be able to do all...

Does the spell "Launch Item" require a to-hit roll?

While the spell doesn't specifically say so, it is implied as such. "Launch Bolt" says that you fire the crossbow bolt "as if fired from a light crossbow" which implies you have to make a to-hit roll just like you'd fired it normally. We took this to mean that for launch item, you have to make...

    Mounts and mounted combat

Jotun, I definitely agree with you on this one. I think when it comes to this rule and certain situations... I'd rule 0 them on an individual basis. For example, an archer on horseback firing arrows at his foes as he gallops after them in hot pursuit (which is what I think this rule is meant...

    Mounts and mounted combat

I agree that this rule is completely nuts-o. To my knowledge, this is the only time where they decided to insert a mechanic for allowing attacks WHILE moving, instead of before, after, or between. Every other instance of moving while attacking involves either moving then attacking, attacking...

I'm curious as to what you consider a "properly run dragon", kreynolds.

    rings of blinking and rogues

After examining Blink and Blind fight, I concur that there is a case for making Blind Fight somewhat effective against Blink. It is specified in the spell that Blind Fight does not work when ATTACKING the blinking character. This makes sense, since the miss chance here is because of PHYSICAL...

    Spell Immunity

That's how I understand Dispel Magic to work. While it is targeted on a creature, the spell isn't trying to affect the CREATURE at all. It is trying to affect the magical auras ON the creature. Because the creature isn't the target of the spell effect, his SR doesn't come into play.

    Detect Magic, Illusions and invisibility

Wow. Even though Detect Magic is a level 0 spell, it is a really powerful one, especially if it is permanently on a subject, basically making it a Supernatural Ability. A creature with Invisibility cast on it WILL indeed give off a magical aura that will be detected by the character. However...

    rings of blinking and rogues

Aye! Remember, this is why we have a "Rules" forum. As this forum has shown many many times, figuring out what a rule means oftentimes is not as simple as looking something up in one of the books, or the FAQ. Sometimes we need to figure it out. Arcturus_Rugend, I think most people look at...

    Spell Immunity

I'm fuzzy on the whole Spell Immunity as well. As I understand it, if a spell doesn't allow SR, then the creature is not immune to it. This makes sense for things like Scry, Lemond's Tiny Hut, Summon Monster spells, and other spells that aren't really cast on a creature. You can't hurt a...

    rings of blinking and rogues

Correct. I'm getting this from the fact that being able to See Invisibility negates part of the spell's effect, and being able to attack incorporeal creatures negates another part of the spell's effect. Since one or the other or both of these effects can be negated, it MEANS that the spell has...

    Invisibility and Scrolls?

What about a penalty to ranged attacks? How are you going to aim a bow? Sure you can hold the bow out in the general direction of the guy you want to hit... but since you can't see the bow, you can't use the arrow as a sight for where you're aiming to.

    rings of blinking and rogues

I think everyone's cool here... let's not confuse logical disagreements with personal attacks. Sometimes the two are easily confused and hard to distinguish. :)
