D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

Yeah - it was about online presence, not book sales. The book sales numbers would be lagging indicators as more and more people found out about it but the DDB cancellations were where they realized they had a mess on their hands.

Paizo News: Organized Play & Humble Bundle Partnership

Yeah - it was realizing that I didn't have either of them along with some of the flip maps (which I can either print and use in person or extract the images from to throw up on roll20) and the charity part that pushed me over the top.

Paizo News: Organized Play & Humble Bundle Partnership

Or print and play if you own a printer. JPG or PNG would be more useful for VTT tbh, though PDFs can work. But PDF is great for printing and gluing onto thicker cardstock for in person play.

Paizo News: Organized Play & Humble Bundle Partnership

I had to think about it because I've bought two previous bundles and there's overlap. So not quite the no brainer but if I'm calculating things right it's still worth it.

Thoughts on the Failure of Licensed IP in the Hobby: The Lack of Disney-fication is a Feature, not a Bug

Yup. Player expectations are a big deal. I actually think that's why D&D does so well while other games only have their niche success. D&D is versatile in how you play it but the core game was originally built around beating up monsters and taking their stuff. I can run a table with someone...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Reveals New Golden Vault Details

To anyone who didn't immediately see the Bitcoin logo when you saw that Wizards image: Bless you. You must be doing something right with your life if bitcoin is off your radar. I wish I knew far less about it personally.

RPG Crowdfunding News – Deep Magic 2, Pugmire, Vast Grimm, and more

I'm like 99.99% certain that Onyx Path is just a licensor of Paradox's WoD properties and not actually owned by Paradox. Which is why there are two WoD game lines - one published by Onyx Path and one now published by Renegade under license (which was originally published by Paradox themselves...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Reveals New Golden Vault Details

It can be both. In the sense that I'm pretty sure the preview chapters were originally partially to get people to sign up for free DDB accounts. They certainly got me to do it by dangling free stuff in front of me.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Reveals New Golden Vault Details

Right - Revel's End was created for Rime of the Frostmaiden, but it was really created for the movie and then Perkins included it in the book. It has the feel of a setting that has been around in the Realms forever, and for that I give Perkins credit. Because it certainly seems like the kind of...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Reveals New Golden Vault Details

It's actually confirmed to be the same prison - Revel's End. IIRC it was actually created for the movie but because of movie lead times they were able to add it to the world long before the movie's release. Can't find a direct quote now - I think it was in one of the videos - but this polygon...

DC Announces New Movie and TV Plans

I'm mostly worried because the Authority as a concept works when it's used as a commentary/contrast on traditional superheroes, but Snyder's Justice League is already informed by the Authority and so there's no real contrast there. And future movies are going to be informed one way or the other...

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

This is how they're keeping the price point the same while dealing with cost increases on their side. I suspect that the new price point will be $60 or even $65 and be back at larger page counts, but they'll try to keep things at the current price point of $50 MSRP until the new edition drops...

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

IIRC their current sales were still growing. This push for a new edition likely exists not because of a need to boost sales on books but because it's the 50th anniversary and they don't want to waste it. Sure growth in book sales would be nice, but it's pretty clear that they want growth in...

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

I mean, do they? Part of what's going on right now is the PHB is still selling in good numbers. So they actually need to make sure people continue to buy their PHB when they drop a new version of it out there, rather than trying to find ways to get people to buy another one. It's a different...

Marvel Multiverse RPG Brought Forward & New X-Men Expansion

I would bet actual money that the rights to the old FASERIP system are a licensing nightmare and nobody is sure who owns what and it isn't worth the money to them to try to find out. And that's why a blind eye has always been turned to the fan sites posting scans of that material.

Marvel Multiverse RPG Brought Forward & New X-Men Expansion

I mean it's only taken Marvel 20+ years to figure this out. (This is me recalling how dire Marvel's X-Men books were when the first X-men movies came out.)

Ryan Dancy live stream about WotCs surprising change.

Cynically, I think Dancey understands the TTRPG market too well to know what the folks at Wizards now will or will not see as necessary to go forward. He can't put himself into the mindset of a group of people who really don't understand this niche market that they've found themselves at the top of.

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

OH - I see. We're coming at this with different perspectives. I don't think WotC will do that at all. I think they wanted to break the OGL because they know they can't change D&D radically away from 5e and have their plans work, so they wanted it gone so they could have a monopoly. I think...
