    The Dungeon That Always Was...

There was a console game - Dragon Quest something I think on the PS2 that had this sort of theme. It's in a fantasypunk/modern sort of world where most people are rigidly ordered members of this underground society with a name and number which is determined at birth. This number determines their...

Age of Worms Character Creation Advice

We have had some success with this group, but mind you I think out of all the DM's of Age of Worms I've killed the most characters. 1. PC's don't complement one another. My players don't work together, they tend to make a character that is fun to play/roleplay first, strategy second. The...

DM's: Do you have trouble giving up the DM-reigns?

For a while I'm okay, and enjoy the opportunity to not have to worry about whether others will have fun and just enjoy the games. But after awhile my brain bubbles with things I want to run and the way I want to run them and I start itching to DM again. It's generally not a problem as my...

    Dopey things DM's have done.

I generally forget special abilities in important combats. I think the worst time was when the PC's were underground fighting a beefy Ankheg - they had no idea what it was and the only character who could see (a dwarf) was screaming in terror. In the dark, I forgot all penalties and miss...

Does Adulthood Change the RPG Experience Much?

I also must relate an account of more story, less fighting. To begin with we played without purpose. Purposeless, we began to seek a reason The reason was often hard to find, insoluble Treasure dripped through our fingers like blood. Eventually, life became meaningful, though transitory Those...

    Oh no Conan just DIDNT!

I remember watching a comedy show showing that normal, nightclubbing men were horrible in relationships - the answer? Geeks! Geeks were being advertised as stable, attention giving spouses and completely free of all STD's and violent complexes. The only problem was the fact the girlfriend would...

    Bargle Beyond the Red Box

He recently turned up as a wizard of some power in a forgotten realms campaign, attempting to retake his dungeon from the gobln. A hot fallen cleric was seen nearby...

    Midnight - Campaign help.

Whoops. I mean, Thanks Dirigible! We've had the whole half starved thing going for awhile now. A plagued forest covered in frost-broken trees doesn't really have a great deal of animals in it :D. Catching syphilis would be interesting but they all just saved a powerful nexus of healing and had...

    Midnight - Campaign help.

Well, it doesn't have to be weeks. I haven't started the game as yet. It could be "The moment your foot enters the hall, a dozen elves quickly tell you of an emergency.." But thanks for the ideas guys. I do have that treant mission and plan to run it slightly later with the pregen characters...

    Iron Kingdoms rules question

Thanks guys, that clears it up. I was looking at the text and it didn't have the all encompassing or in it - just that you could "channel" a spell through a rune bullet to get extra damage. So you don't also get the spells damage, just the force damage. Sounds fair to me.

    Midnight - Campaign help.

I'm out of good ideas. After two highly successful Midnight campaigns lasting for about 2 months each (Crown of Shadow and a further 5th-8th campaign dealing with a plague carried by tainted water) the PC's have hit a few of the prestige classes and have had a few weeks off. My plan was to...

    Iron Kingdoms rules question

If anyone can clear this up for me I'd be grateful. A gunmage can apparently channel a spell into a rune bullet, which does extra damage. However, does the spell go off normally, or does the spell energy just go strait into the damage? I.e. Gunmage channels a third level spell into a rune...

Midnight Setting: Kryas Crynkal of the Erunsil Elves

My hardened, murderous resistance characters would be rather suprised if they came across Santa. Even though it is a very, very cool, Midnight Santa.

    Plotlines - eh?

Another queenslander on the boards! Welcome. An urbane brisbanite here. As to your plot - I would agree with the above statements about continuing the problem with the core conflict. Why would the academy be attacked is important. Did it have anything of importance? was the headmasters beard a...

    I hate monks

I think our problem lies in a dual nature. There are those who dislike mixing their traditional, westernised fantasy with the eastern variant. This is fine. I personally prefer restriction to propagation. Those who prefer their non-melting pot ideas probably have a particular feel that...

Progressing character backgrounds as the campaign progresses

I've found that regardless of campaign, background has forced players to interact with PC's and NPC's with some knowledge of that background. PC's can really start to find NPC's as brief interludes after awhile. Players with little interest in roleplaying and more in gaming can see even kings...

As a player, do you enjoy moral dilemmas and no-win situations?

Sure. I love them. Just like I love Watchmen. And play Midnight. It might seem a no-brainer, but being put into situations where they have the choice of saving themselves against saving a village... it adds some depth to the characters. Even the most hardcore PC has horrified at the evil...

    A low-level characther meets A Celestial Lord

Oh, I don't know. Gandalf, being his pushy, inquisitive self, makes his friend Bilbo go on this big quest involving dragons, elves, and trolls... He even comes back and recruits this annoying Frodo fellow some time later about some silly Ring... Most organisations are headed by a powerful...

    Why did you start DMing?

After going through "The Adventure Begins Here!" and a fairly good early-level adventure in a small town, the DM and I co-bought an adventure we didn't realise was for about 7th level. We played that I think twice before the DM said he didn't want to do it anymore. Because none of us had...
