Just realized something about item crafting.

There is already a limitation built into the system by not letting you craft anything above your level. No need to add another layer of limitations just to punish player characters. Besides, since rituals only cost money and not feats or anything really valuable it would not be much of a...

Just realized something about item crafting.

This also means that I can PLAY that dwarven master smith... I tried making one in 3.5. While he was fun to play he never really worked as a wizard/fighter... But now I can finally have a dwarf that makes his own weapon and armor.

    Multiclass Feat Weirdness?

Unforgivable? I don't think so. I just won't bother with multiclassing much.

    Multiclass Feat Weirdness?

No, that's forward incompatibility. Completely different.

    Any Graphical Feat Trees?

There are no real feat chains anymore except the armor feats and the multiclassing feats. I don't think anyone needs an entire tree to keep track of those. Unless you're talking about something else.

    Proposed Apprentice (Zero) Level

Perhaps. I think I get his point. Yes, 4e characters are tougher from the get-go. So are the opponents. Whether a challenge is mundane or not isn't really a matter of level though, is it? I recall playing several 3.5e characters at level 1, facing undead, kobolds, goblins... are these threats...

    Another skill challenge solution

Thanks, I think it's pretty cool too. I won't have time to play any DnD for another three weeks now so if anyone tries out this system for real in a game I would love it if you posted about the experience here.

    Proposed Apprentice (Zero) Level

Question: Are you expecting your characters to survive their periods as apprentices? If not, why bother? If you do expect them to survive, why even use any rules? I would be pretty miffed if my painstakingly crafted character (the personality and background, not the numbers) was killed off by a...

    Another skill challenge solution

The scaling works fine if you just stick to the complexities in the DMG. It actually becomes slightly easier, on average, with higher complexity. For complexity 1 using standard DC, a party of 5 using good skills (+9, 45% chance of success at DC 20) will get 4.25 successes in 2 rounds, on...

    Offhand Attacks

NPCs don't use the same rules as characters. Making the Quick Punch into a feat is obviously overpowered. Feats aren't supposed to be that good. That is a feat that every PC could use almost every turn of combat. Would you make a melee-centered character without it? Perhaps not a sword-and-board...

    Hardest to Visualize Power

When you use a power that has several targets, such as a blast or burst, with a ranged weapon, you actually have to use one arrow or thrown weapon per target. So basically the rogue grabs a fistful of daggers and throws them all at once. Or loads a bunch of shot in his slung and throws them all...

    Offhand Attacks

It seems balanced to me as long as your off-hand attack only does 1 point of damage. But you can reduce the prerequisite to Dex 13, remove the penalty to the attack roll and instead of a minor action just let it be a part of the regular attack action.

    Another skill challenge solution

Thanks for looking at this. With this system I wouldn't try to change complexity like that. I would stick with 4/2, 6/3, 8/4, etc, as the book says, and if I wanted to make a challenge harder or easier I would probably mess around with the DCs instead. I can also award bonus rounds for...

Dwarves don't go prone easy? Even if unconscious?

It was bound to happen. Cheesus...

Dwarves don't go prone easy? Even if unconscious?

"when an attack would knock you prone" The attack killed him, so getting knocked prone was an effect of the attack. Save away! Yes, I'm just trying to be funny. No need to reply to this to point out that I'm wrong.

D&D 4E Showing the Math: Proving that 4e’s Skill Challenge system is broken (math heavy)

I would like to know what mathematically talented people think about the idea I posted here: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=229928

    Another skill challenge solution

I read Stalker0's new Skill Challenge system (found here: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=229796) and while the math probably is sound and it looks like it would work just fine, I still think it's a little too complicated. Perhaps I have misunderstood the original skill challenge system...

Forgotten Realms; Will it have overpowered feats?

I hope they have learned from past mistakes. Also, feats are less powerful in general this time around, so unless they go completely overboard I don't think you have to worry.

    Martial Artist Feats

Ok, so the halflings get the same damage as everyone else. But what about an ogre brawler? My feats are elegant and scales up for larger creatures. That makes them superior. :)

    Everything is an attack!

That depends on whether the "Target: One creature" of Magic Missile and many other powers makes it possible to target objects or just creatures.
