    AD&D 2E Huh. AD&D 2e is my favorite D&D

Gads, I remember the days of toting a backpack, gym bag, map case and mini's box to games and somehow was able to haul it in on one go. I want to say that I weighed the backpack in at somewhere around 35 lbs. alone. I bought into the iPad gen 1 when it came out just to save my back, and...

    AD&D 2E Huh. AD&D 2e is my favorite D&D

I'm of mixed feelings on the 2E original vs. revised books. There's some art in the original I really like, but I find the formatting of the revised book more readable, especially for me olde eyes. I just downloaded the 2E retroclone "For Gold & Glory" and I'm comparing the layout of that. I...

    One innovation per edition

    My list would be: 1E - Base; 1E PHB/DMG + UA, with Wilderness and Dungeoneer's Survival Guides NWP's 2E - Kits 3E - Ascending AC 4E - ???, maybe Bloodied? 5E - Advantage/Disadvantage (Though personally, I'd start with 2E as a base)

    D&D 5E (2014) Users of D&D 2014 - What are you using from 2024? +

As asked in the 2024 Houserules thread, those of you still using 2014, what aspects from 2024 have you - or will your group adopt for the game? I'm using the 2024 Wildshape/Polymorph rules that grants fixed temporary hit points. I'm also using the Bloodied condition to trigger certain effects...

    D&D 5E (2024) What are your 2024 houserules?

Haven't gotten to use it just yet, unfortunately. Only thing I would caution is that this is meant to affect the follow-on saving throws, not the initial one - so I'd be sure someone doesn't get spunky with Haste and use that extra action for concentration to roll an enemy. Under 2024...

    D&D 5E (2024) What are your 2024 houserules?

Ah - I called my "Swallowed" Engulfed, as it also works for oozes, creeping ivy and other creatures/effects/objects that surround the target (including stuff like Web, I suppose). What's your rule text for Bleeding and Drained? I'm interested in adding those to my list.

    D&D 5E (2024) What are your 2024 houserules?

That reminds me... - I am using the Baldur's Gate 3 weapon properties (someone had done it as a homebrewery doc, and even in 2024 I'd use it over the Vex, etc.) - Added additional conditions (Aflame, Alert, Bloodied, Concentrating, Confused, Cursed, Diseased, Distracted, Doomed, Engulfed...

    D&D 5E (2024) What are your 2024 houserules?

"Use the 2014 rules" :ROFLMAO: Currently, the only thing I've pulled in from 2024 is Bloodied (was actually using it before 2024) and 2024 Wildshape/polymorph rules.

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

I think you're going to have to find a better example than that. That's a less than two-second "sure" or "nope" and move on situation. I wouldn't even bother to look up Fast Hands on that adjudication and its one of those cases where IMHO is why you have a DM instead of some parser in the...

D&D General How often do you use Homebrew in your own games?

My RPG life is homebrew. I can't count the hours, ink and paper I've used up developing my own homebrew stuff. Even some of my own RPGs over the years. Just for 5E I'm sitting on 3 MM's worth of homebrew monster, a 600 page customized version of the 5E rules and about the same amount of pages...

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

I will say that the way some sections/rules are written in 2024 come across very bizarre and stilted - even to the point they seem to dance around the subject instead of just blurting out what needs to be said*. In most cases, I find myself preferring the 2014 wording which is often more...

D&D General An Atlantean Empire who are it's people and what are their capabilities?

I've always kind of seen the Sahaugin and Kuo-Toa as from the same family - perhaps one singular race in the past that had a mighty empire, but it fell. The Kuo-Toa fell into despair and retreated to the underworld, dreaming and lost in the glory of the lost empire. Meanwhile the Sahaugin...

D&D 5E (2024) What Licensed IP Do You Want For 5E?

Way more the level system uses the zero to hero trope, not the class system. The D&D class system is essentially a point-buy system where your points are allocated for you, rather than letting you spend them where you want. The class system can work in other areas, but for me it's just like...

D&D 5E (2024) PC Gamer: It's clear Hasbro, the custodians of D&D, have no idea what to do with Baldur's Gate 3's success

You never quite know what is going to succeed or fail ahead of time. I seem to remember when Baldur Gate 3 was in beta or pre-release there were a lot of folks unhappy with the state of it. Way back ago, they did release Descent In Avernus to be put out around the time the game was being...

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

I think Keywords help in many areas, but it's too easy to fall into the Overused Condition.

    D&D General Limiting Utility Cantrips

In my game, I've prevented mending from working on anything that has a Damage Threshold (DT) as I feel it's become the same issue as Cure Minor Wounds in the 3E era. I've further created a Repair spell akin to Cure Wounds that repairs objects of 1d10 hit points per spell level. Most objects of...

D&D General An Atlantean Empire who are it's people and what are their capabilities?

Air-gel could be thing too, like from The Abyss, allowing areas for surface races to visit that are filled with Airy Water or the like. Surface races could be also given mimetic breathers to visits the shallow areas, though there might be air-filled areas for long-term guests. Another...

D&D 5E (2024) What Licensed IP Do You Want For 5E?

I think I still have that in my storage unit somewhere, along with the Everquest RPG. (...And the StarCraft Alternity set) As for 3E/3.5E, I tend to lump that together in one system when I'm talking about it. I used a lot of 3E stuff in my 3.5E games so I rarely bother to differentiate.

D&D 5E (2024) What Licensed IP Do You Want For 5E?

Diablo is a shoe-in, I mean it's been done before for both 2E and 3E. And I recall there was a 3E version of World of Warcraft in the past, so that's definitely something that could be brought to life once again. Can't comment on Overwatch as I haven't played/know much about the property, but...

D&D 5E (2024) What Licensed IP Do You Want For 5E?

Well, for Transformers (& GI Joe), Renegade has done fairly well with their system, and I like their system better than straight-up 5E (it's a mix of Alternity/Cortex & D&D). Several times I have considered using Renegade's game system for D&D itself. 40K has Wrath & Glory and I am FINE with...
