    Rate WG7 - Castle Greyhawk

Very well. Very well. Since you asked so nicely. :p I, John Terra, being of unsound mind and extremely good health, do so now officially beg forgiveness for my role in creating the abomination known as Castle Greyhawk. Specification: Willfully and with paycheck aforethought did create the...

    Rate WG7 - Castle Greyhawk

No doubt that finger would have been a "thumbs up," right? OK, Ok, so the thumb's technically not a finger. In that case, you obviously are referring to an upraised index finger, signifying "A-number One!" Right? Right? ;)

Does anyone have contact info for Roger E Moore?

Good editing still isn't easy to come by ;) Check out gaming releases over the past year. I, too, find it outrageous that Roger was laid off. I DID know the man "back then," and in fact he's the one who got my foot in the door in doing TSR freelance. Now, I DO know that some of the Old Guard...

    Rate WG7 - Castle Greyhawk

Pffft. ;) Don't worry about it. Shooting from the hip is preferable to butt-kissing ANY day. And besides, that's your opinion. Anything a writer comes up with is going to have some people saying "This is the greatest thing since sliced bread" and others saying "This material is solid proof...

    Delicate Subjects...

I agree with the whole "be discreet, tactful, and do it between sessions" camp. I'd also add "try to mix in a compliment or two, citing what is GOOD about the DM's game." A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, so they say.

    Why are Dwarves Scottish?

Hmmm...a race of hard-drinking, clannish, dour, crazy-arse warrior types who are also characterised as being thrifty and good engineers??? Sounds to me that dwarves and Scots would be interchangeable. ;)

How do you do item identification?

    1. The party uses Identify spells (though I've done a DM Override and allow the spell to ID one item per level of the caster, like it used to, as opposed to the so-called improved way outlined in 3.5). 2. Alchemy checks can yield potion types, although the more rare the potion, the greater the...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Hmmmm...wow...I never thought of it that way, Frank. Personally, I got my start in the world of gaming by being turned on to Avalon Hill wargames (my first two were Midway and Luftwaffe). In thinking back on how I run encounters that feature monsters with weapons and the ability to use tactics...

    Are Undead Scary?

Yeah, Libre Mortis rocks, donnit? I did something similar to what you did when I got my copy. And I know what you mean about the two kinds of worry, and I'd like to think an ideal situation is a healthy balance of the two, no? The upcoming situation that I'm rubbing my hands over and chuckling...

D&D 4E What would you want to see in 4e?

Interestingly, at least two other posters on this thread (me being one of them) have cited a hope of a 2010 release date. ;) The problem with guesswork comes about if your DM is a bad guesser.

    An epiphany

OK, I'll take a crack at this... Old School: More of a rules framework, fleshed out by DM discretion/judgement. The DM was the final arbiter in the absence of a hard and fast rule. But if your DM didn't make consistent judgements, you were in trouble. A DM could very well forget what his ruling...

    Has the RPGA failed?

Ahhh, I see! OK...that makes sense! So then, if I read this correctly, it went from a club-marketing hybrid to a full-out marketing tool? That's a pity. But for some reason it reminds me of a bizarre anecdote, something which happened back in the days of Milwaukee Gen Cons. There was some...

    Are Undead Scary?

Hmmm...I tend to think that undead in 3.5 are more deadly. Like everything else in the game, undead now have far more options, which makes it easy for sick DMs like me to wreak havoc on parties (not to be confused with wreaking havoc AT parties). Por examplo, our current Forgotten Realms...
