    4E Class Survivor - Round 5

With a sufficiently large elemental grab bag, you can start crafting your own themes. However, 1. The game works against you. If you're going for a force theme, you won't be happy to find that half the force powers you might have taken are intended for use by different builds from yours...

    Class Acts: Greatweapon Fighter

I did like some of the powers that let you hit one guy, knock him back, then charge him for a finishing blow. Not such a fan of losing attack bonus though.

    4E Class Survivor - Round 5

I can only speak for myself: I hate grab bags of elemental damage. I love theme. The Swordmage is a grab bag of elemental damage class, much like the Wizard. I like the potential of the swordmage. I think it could have been truly great, and maybe someday as the number of swordmage powers...

    Class Acts: Greatweapon Fighter

Yeah, I can't see how that power is balanced. I look for an errata in the final published copy. Seriously, my not particularly optimized great weapon fighter would expect to get +5 AC from that power. And all he pays is a power slot and a minor action he hasn't used in his entire career...

    4E Class Survivor - Round 5

Swordmage. I hate and loathe the "grab bag of elemental damage" style of arcanist, and while the wizard is the worst offender in this category, the swordmage at least had a chance to break the shackles of tradition and do something new without enraging the fan base. Its a shame it wasn't...

    4E Class Survivor - Round 4

Good point, Firelance. And I don't want to steal this game's thunder.

    Understanding Alignment

Ding! And now we're back to the original point: some people believe there Right and Wrong answers, and the alignment system provides a flashpoint for them to come into conflict with other people who also believe there are Right and Wrong answers, but who believe in different Right and Wrong...

    Understanding Alignment

What do you feel was added by using nine categories to divy up three possible answers to a basic moral question, especially when most of the answers do not actually provide any guidance or suggestions on how to roleplay the situation? Its worth noting that the trolley questions aren't crazy...

    4E Class Survivor - Round 4

Anyone want me to do it? I'll run it like America's Got Talent. You can vote up to X times (honor system not to vote more), and then the bottom Y percent drops out each round.

    Understanding Alignment

A fun challenge: Provide the obvious, unambiguous, clearly correct application of the 3e alignment rules to the trolley problems. Remember, your answer doesn't just need to be convincing to you! It must be so convincing to you that you are willing to claim that the 3e alignment system...

Really, how important is the system/edition?

Whether the system matters depends on the system. :) If you're playing a game that's relatively rules light, where the majority of your time at the table is spent talking instead of rolling dice, then system isn't that important. For example, I recently played in a superhero game. I don't...

3rd Party Products - Do You Care?

I mostly play 4e. I mostly do not care about 3rd party products. I have purchased some third party accessories, including maps, iniatitive trackers, and lots of miniatures for my painting hobby. I have never purchased a 3rd party book or adventure, and do not believe that I likely ever will.

    Understanding Alignment

The typical reason this sort of thing comes up is when the PCs first start realizing that they can solve mystery plotlines by scanning everyone's alignment. The DM then starts ensuring that the world has "regular" evil people in it, instead of just supernatural EVIL people, so that registering...

    4E Class Survivor - Round 4

The funny thing is that I love the warlord and the shaman, but just don't like the bard. Remember, this poll doesn't measure positive feelings. It only measures hate.

    4E Class Survivor - Round 4

Down with the bard! I'm cool with trickster leader mages, but its just not musical enough for a class named after its music. Kill the bard and make "music" into a power source.

    Understanding Alignment

The fact that you derive this much detail from about 5 words wins the argument for my side. I consider this thread concluded for me. Were I to convince you that there are such things as opinions you can regard as reasonable even if you do not hold them, I would actually undermine my position...

    Understanding Alignment

I'm sure its quite easy to you. This would be an excellent example of what I'm talking about though. You're quite convinced that you're objectively correct, and not just objectively correct, self evidently objectively correct. And yet alignment threads exist. Ironically, the evil tavern...

Waiting for A Time of War - BattleTech RPG

My problem is that what I really want from a Battletech RPG is a seamless merging with the Battletech miniatures game. I want roleplaying rules that let me use the miniatures game for combat resolution, and which help me structure a game around the things I love most about the Battletech...

    Understanding Alignment

You asked for alignment supports. Sorry. I'm not one and I'm going to post anyways. 1. Its important to distinguish between alignment as concept and alignment as specified by the rules. The rules have cracks. For example, a low level cleric of an evil deity registers as "moderately evil"...

    4E Class Survivor - Round 3

I like the Shaman. I want to play a rethemed shaman who summons angels. I sketched one up, it worked really well. And mechanically I think the shaman is actually pretty strong if you've got a melee centric party. I don't like the Bard. I don't care if its got tons and tons of history...
