They're not that different at low levels. If dwarves in 4e had blunderbusses and all elves were dark skinned and from the jungle, then IMO there wouldn't be a joke. It's just an observation of which elements in 4E are obviously influenced from Blizzard's innovations in the genre.

The biggest WoW reminder to me was Magic (Arcane) Missile and Eldritch Blast (Shadow Bolt). The jury is still out on most of the other powers because we haven't seen them yet.

I just hope the 4E conversions go as smooth as the Eberron ones did. :p
