    D&D 4E 4E is like WoW (NOT!)

In summary, WoW's difference is damage type and a little bit of range. DPS in D&D is simulated by the amount of damage dealt, and in the same given time period a starting arcane missile and shadow bolt do about the same amount. Nearly identical. And that brings up another point about WoW's...

    D&D 4E 4E is like WoW (NOT!)

In prior versions of D&D, the color of a magic missile was not detailed, it was an automatic hit and it was only available a few times per day. In WoW, the missile has the same color every time, there's a chance it doesn't effect targets and there is no limit to the number of castings per day...

    D&D 4E 4E is like WoW (NOT!)

They're not that different at low levels. If dwarves in 4e had blunderbusses and all elves were dark skinned and from the jungle, then IMO there wouldn't be a joke. It's just an observation of which elements in 4E are obviously influenced from Blizzard's innovations in the genre.

In prior versions of D&D, the color of a magic missile was not detailed, it was an automatic hit and it was only available a few times per day. In WoW, the missile has the same color every time, there's a chance it doesn't effect targets and it is at will. In 4th edition, it's described as a...

    D&D 4E 4E is like WoW (NOT!)

The biggest WoW reminder to me was Magic (Arcane) Missile and Eldritch Blast (Shadow Bolt). The jury is still out on most of the other powers because we haven't seen them yet.

I just hope the 4E conversions go as smooth as the Eberron ones did. :p

    D&D 4E EN World 4E Adventure Path

First I'd like to say that my players are very much enjoying the War of the Burning Sky. We've been playing for over a year now and we're almost done with the Mad King's Banquet. In a chat last night, Erik Mona said that Paizo is no longer trying to trademark the phrase Adventure Path...

    Pathfinder 1E Paizo being mysterious

James Jacobs said in chat last week to make sure we attend today's chat. In the days following that chat other Paizo staff have said they have not received the GSL yet. I'm assuming they set 3/18 as their cutoff date for their next Adventure Path (Second Darkness). Since they do not have the...

D&D 4E Which RPG System is 4E most like?

I was trying to list systems that are still in print (for the most party). I also didn't list out each edition of each game. Can you be a little more specific, comparing each of these elements? a.) Implements (Dice, Cards) b.) Units of Measurement (Time, Distance) c.) Raw Abilities d.)...

D&D 4E Which RPG System is 4E most like?

If there is an unlisted RPG that doesn't fall within the current OGL and you'd like to demonstrate that it is more like 4E using the criteria above then please do so.

D&D 4E Which RPG System is 4E most like?

I'm hearing from many people that 4th edition D&D is very different from d20/OGL, so I have a few questions: 1.) If a third party company had developed the same rules that are in 4th edition, would the rules have been different enough to fall outside of the existing OGL? 2.) Given the...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Site is Down, Do They Have the Licence?

They did begin moderating their message boards in the last few days. Perhaps they made a change to their software, or perhaps they received some type of attack. Or maybe they installed something for a new sale and it got hosed. Or maybe it's just network problems.

    The Unstoppable Black Dragon

The quote is significant to me because it's coming from the Paizo rep who went, and they're making a decision soon about 4E which I think will have a greater influence on the quantity of quality of 4E material. I can ignore the opinions of the majority of posters here who were at DDXP, because...

    The Unstoppable Black Dragon

One person was upset: "Jason asserted that it often seemed as if PCs were either "coasting" through adventuring challenges in the new edition, or "completely terrified" by foes that wildly overmatched them. He claimed that, in his admittedly limited experience, he hadn't felt particularly...

    The Unstoppable Black Dragon

I think you can create an encounter that showcases combat and also has interesting flavor and mechanics. I also think you can create an encounter that showcases combat but is overall unrealistic and imbalanced. I also question the goal of pitting the dragon's combat stats vs. the combat...

    The Unstoppable Black Dragon

Well when the fight begins, that's exactly what the dragon should be thinking. Before that, an intelligent dragon would at least try to modify the environment to make it easier to defend. With all of those kobold slaves, digging an escape tunnel to a water source should be the first item on...

    The Unstoppable Black Dragon

The reason I asked those questions was to understand the options available to the dragon's movement. 4th edition combat emphasizes tactical maneuvers, so it seems ironic if they don't showcase fundamental movement advantages that intelligent (non-disposable) dragons normally have. IMO it might...
