I don't know any inside info, but it feels at least that Chaosium came out better on the other side of their own Kickstarter issues. It wasn't their first big crisis, as the card game boom/bust with Mythos also almost sunk them as I understand it.

To clarify my feelings: This is a good thing.

What people should steel themselves for is a basic likelihood. DnD's base rules are not going to get any more complex than they are now. If anything, expect even more streamlining.

On the day of release, just like every other rules update.

Abandoning the existing schools of magic and coming up with say six clear schools.

The more I read of these rules, the more it just reads as someone's weird kinks.

As someone who has the mental trauma of reading FATAL, it's telling how much the aching need to gamify everything echoes that pile.

Players are going to always be primarily concerned with lore that affects their character. The DM has to juggle ALL lore.

Cars are expensive to produce and to buy. Games much less so. People buy games they never play all the time. Hell, I buy games on principle that I don't get to play.

There is another layer, which is that this may all be a grift. Stir up aggrieved audience. convince them that buying the game will strike a blow against the "snowflake SJWs." It doesn't have to be good. It just has to make them feel good buying it.

What this reinforces to me is the axiom that bigotry uplifts the mediocre, so it will be the mediocre that will fight the hardest to uphold oppressive norms and systems, because they have the most to lose. That this game both looks like garbage and is just vile isn't an accident. Form follows...

While a touch off topic, I do wish to say that I will give very aggressive push-back against any existing gamers who voice resentment at Stranger Things being what motivates people to try our hobby. Get gone with that gatekeeping nonsense.

I DMed a first game for my nieces, nephew, their friends, and several in-laws earlier this year. They name dropped Stranger Things as what drew their interest and what made their parents feel it was safe and normal to give DnD a try. Everyone had a great time, and my wife and I bought the kids...

Offer it as an unlock based on some in game quest or action.
