Tactical movement made easy! (New combat action)

I've been on vacation, so no time to really respond, but here's the logic behind this stuff: Under 3.5 rules, an attacker can take his 5' step at any time in a round, so a normal FAA could hit once or twice, advance, step forward, and attack again. Great Advance just lets you daisy chain your...

    Can this be right?

I've played a character using Karmic Strike (from OA, before the Combat Expertise prereq was added), and while it was certainly a nifty trick, it wasn't something I relied on. I generally had it activated every round, but never depended on it for extra attacks, but as a backup in case of...

    Tension Breaking Moments

Party is making a cameo in Rokugan (obscure planeshift/plot contrivance to allow us to make use of the DM's new books :D ), and as pointy eared foreign devils apparently prophesized to save the world (funny how that happens), we are greeted fairly warmly. The party meets a wandering samurai and...

    Using [and abusing] puns...

For a Spycraft campaign I DMed, I had a 3 mission series in which the group had to assasinate a Serbian general. His name: Notmilo Sovich. Sadly enough, they didn't catch on until a little after they killed him. Then they tried to lynch me. The agency that the group worked for (and that would...

    Winamp5 and ASIO output... help!

I've been going on a general tweaking spree as of late, and my mp3 player is the latest to be the subject of improvement. I've got an Audigy2, so I downloaded the MAD decoder, and it's working like a charm with Winamp5. I've been trying to get ASIO output to work, but it dies every time. I know...

    Running the Realms... with airships

That was kinda the idea :) The Halruaan airships in Magic of Faerun aren't bad, but they're far too expensive and inefficient for the kind of campaign I want to run, plus, the Airships rules are so sexy.

    Running the Realms... with airships

My group's current campaign is coming to an end, and our DM has decided to take a break, and enjoy being a simple player for a few sessions. I picked up a copy of Airships some time ago, and after viewing Pirates of the Carribean a few too many times, the obvious idea came to mind: Run an...

Tactical movement made easy! (New combat action)

I'm currently thinking no AOOs myself. The uses that you mentioned are exactly what I'm shooting for - inventive ways to use positioning in combat. Visions of combats across tabletops, or back and forth along a ship's deck, are exactly what inspired me to create this!

Tactical movement made easy! (New combat action)

Edit: After some thought, I've revised the advance rules, to deal with a few niggling problems, and to address some concerns voiced below. The original rules can be found below the revised ones (along w/ the original design decisions) Advance As a melee attack, you may attempt to force your...

    I die. a lot.

I design all my characters with survivability in mind. High ACs, odd abilities that keep them alive, combat tactics that avoid the heat of the fray. Hell, my current/last character (he's dead, might get rezzed next session if our surviving party member doesn't bite it) was a frenzied berserker...

    Gift Advice

I got my DM a community supporter account here :) He seems to like it, but that kinda depends on whether your fellow players come here or not.

    Calling all min maxers!!!!!

In general, unless you're going for a very specific smackdown (usually high-strength/damage), races with level adjustments are a bad idea. The loss in BAB, HP, and feats usually outweighs the gain in a few abilities that won't scale with level. That SR, for example, becomes useless around level...

Armor as Damage Reduction (how to make it work for you)

Was actually thinking of this sort of thing today while eating dinner, and I came up with this system (round everything down): Armor Class is DR, with DR being 1/2 total of (armor bonus + natural armor) I like the idea of parrying, but wasting an AOO on this seems (as well as rolling more dice)...

Swallow a potion as a free action

Those tasty SRD quotes we've all been waiting for: There's your problem :p Still is a nifty idea though. I like the feat idea myself, seems fairly balanced. A single feat would probably be enough, as two seems a bit much for an ability that gets mediocre at higher levels.

    Help...

I find a multivitamin helps as well, along with the water and salty stuff. Not only does it replenish all those nutrients that you probably had in your dinner (until you threw that up), but it's good for you too!

Why don't flesh eating zombies eat each other?

Oh dear. Zombie cows terrorizing the countryside. And with four stomachs to digest you with, they're hungry. Seriously though, someone should stat up a zombie cow.
