    Upcoming changes in Beta

I'm also quite excited about the coming beta. When is August is it going to be available? Before Gen Con? During? Or just after?

What 3rd Party Products Do You Want to See?

Things I would like most from a GM perspective are : Psionic options, planar options, stand alone adventures, campaign settings, adventure paths and small "settings" that work in any larger setting.

Sunless Citidel vs. Keep on the Shadowfell

The Sunless Citadel was a great starting point for 3E - at least our group found it that way. The idea of a keep sinking down into the earth was cool, and we really liked the different groups inhabiting the citadel plus the twisted vampire tree and druid. The only encounter that was a bit...

    Forked Thread: Changeover poll

We started a new 3E campaign probably about a month and a bit after the new rules were released (and we had time to read and absorb them). Once we started playing, we were hooked and our longer running 2E/2.5 campaign was converted over to 3.0 within 3 months of release and we never looked...

    Rescue at Rivenroar Posted

I was wondering the same thing. If you're going to show us an area map, then why not mark on that map where the bulk of the adventure takes place? It seems surprisingly sloppy.

D&D 4E Just played my first 4E game

I've noticed that some players really hate having to choose spells because they are worried they'll make the wrong choice. This is happening in my current Pathfinder/3.5 game where one player is playing a cleric (she normally plays fighter types, rogues or monks) and she hates having to choose...

D&D 4E Just played my first 4E game

I've heard (and I've felt) similar things from our 4E games. Going in, I thought things looked more like a skirmish miniatures game than D&D of old, but once you actually play it's more than just that. A number of the powers/abilities really have a video game feel. My wife keeps insisting...

How much face-to-face 4e have you played so far?

I've played 2 sessions to date (each 6-7 hours long); both were the Keep on the Shadowfell adventure. I really enjoyed playing my 1st level wizard for the first session. However, we're starting to like things quite a bit less after the second session now that we are all 2nd level. It's not...

What 2008 4E products will you buy?

I was wondering that myself. The only thing on that list that I was considering getting is the Manual of the Planes, but even that is somewhat tenuous, so I was looking for a "none of the above" option and was surprised not to see one.

    Developer Talk = Gospel?

And that last line is the important thing : IF the game is better for it. Getting back to the OP, and the question of why people put their blind trust in experts, look no farther than popular culture for more examples. How many people read particular books because Oprah recommends them? Many...

Forked Thread: Its the terminology that kills me...

Yes, I also find the use of "leader", "controller", "striker", "brute", and so on very off-putting. I've been playing the game for just shy of 30 years now and no one in my groups has ever used any slang even remotely similar to that around a gaming table. We always talked in terms of class...

    I hate game balance!

I don't hate game balance, but I'll answer anyway! With work! Or just stay away from very high level stuff. I assume we're talking about 3.x D&D? With difficulty. Pay attention to who is getting a chance to shine and who is not in your games and try and introduce more elements for those who...

    I hate game balance!

I think what the original poster really hates is the blandness in how the game balance was achieved. There ought to have been a way to balance things levels 1-30 for all classes without making the classes almost identical mechanically.

    4e Cosmology Changes

I agree. I liked the Great Wheel and I agree that they've completely nerfed alignment in 4E. I would have liked the 4E cosmology better if they had just oriented it on a law-chaos axis and dropped good and evil completely from the alignment system. As it is now, if feels wrong and it equates...

    4e Cosmology Changes

I would say that the portals in planescape are nothing at all like jump gates. They are closer to the portals in "The Time Bandits" or I suppose Pullman's "The Subtle Knife". I must have missed that. I didn't know that the 4E astral sea was flattened to 2 dimensions. Somehow that is...

What is WOTC's Vision For The GSL?

To crush the OGL, see it driven before them, and to hear the lamentations of its fans.

My first proper 4E game - Our reaction.

Yes, there is probably quite a bit of truth to this. Our game of 4E went pretty good partly because the DM of the adventure (Keep on the Shadowfell) was really excited about it. Of the the players, easily 3/4s were doubters going in, but we all really enjoyed ourselves in the end. We're still...

D&D 4E Crafting... can anyone make anything in 4E?

I would have to agree. If crafting is really important to your game (and combat is not) and you don't see what you need in 4E with regard to a crafting system, then perhaps 4E isn't the best system for your game. Any answers suggesting the DM should write the rules themselves is not the answer...

D&D 4E Crafting... can anyone make anything in 4E?

That's one reason why I have always used the crafting system variant in Unearthed Arcana. It provided a mechanism for players who are rushing through an adventure path or other published adventure series to still use their craft/item creation skills.

You reap what you sow - GSL.

For one, I know that the Paizo adventure paths (post Dungeon era) use 3rd party OGC, and in particular, the Tome of Horrors.
