I think the issue is avoiding meta-gaming think. This can really suck out the mood sometimes. Try to stay in the character.

Yea, I think it might have been a bit more interesting if they had gone with a straight law-chaos split (with the Primordials on the Chaos side). At least there would have been the possibility of ambiguity as to who really was the "bad guy" in the conflict.

Our gaming group has always been mostly cooperative and highly tactically aware with all versions of the game (1E, 2E, C&T, 3.x). Occasionally a new player coming into the group would play a more selfish style, but they'd either eventually adapt to our more cooperative style or move on...

Search and replace at will, but I disagree that wizards (and clerics) can do everything that everyone else can do. Consider the fighter since I was talking about them. There is no way a wizard can step into the shoes of a fighter. They simply don't have the combat feats or stamina for it...
