Could the D20/OGL end up hurting WoTC?

I'm sure WotC's D&D sales are doing just fine. Smaller d20 companies leaving the d20 industry doesn't really affect WotC in any significant way. Other "competing" d20-based games aren't really competition to WotC, either. The scale is just so different. I don't know the sales numbers for Green...

    Feats Not Created Equal

Actually, it does ... the CR system assumes a party of four characters, specifically these four characters: Jozan, Mialee, Lidda, and Tordek. Those four characters are designed sub-optimally (some of them have really crappy skill and feat selections that don't do them any good in combat) because...

Creativity by modification (w. WotC article)

Monte Cook suggested this very thing in an article (in 2002, I think), using a winter wolf modified to be a bony creature with a "breath weapon" of bone spikes.

Do 4 million people really play D&D on a regular basis?

IIRC the numbers in the pre-3E study were 1.5 million playing D&D at least once a month. Perhaps WotC has updated the study since the release of 3E. And yes, that means that there are a lot of people playing that aren't buying. Since the release of 3E a lot of them became buyers again, at least...

    Manyshot, your opinion ...

It's broken. Rapid Shot should be -3 instead of -2, and Manyshot propagates that problem. Furthermore, Manyshot also breaks the cardinal rule of "if you want more than one attack in a round, you have to use a full attack action." It don't care at this point whether or not it's realistic, it's...

Wizards of the Coasts are overcharging us and "TSR"

One, as has already been discussed many times, you got the PH for $20 as a serious discount. The book was priced at $20 to bring old players into the new game without forcing them to eat more than the cost of a $20 bill. After WELL OVER A YEAR of selling the core books at $20, they set the...

    Fully OGL products?

Hungry Little Monsters is a charity book, a collection of monsters by various authors to support FoodForAll.org The above product page says the release date is November, but it's actually been pushed back to January (I got a full-time job and that interefered with me getting the book finished...

    Fully OGL products?

Swords Into Plowshares is 100% Open text. The New Argonauts is (with the exception of the name of one feat used with permission from Monte Cook) 100% Open text or public domain (the concepts in the summary of the Greek mythology are public domain, for example). Hungry Little Monsters will be...

    Carrying my minis... Ideas?

I use InterSponge/ carriers. I've also started basing my minis on metal washers so I can put them on magnetic paper when transporting (it also lowers a mini's center of gravity so it's more stable, and gives me something to grab that won't damage the paint job when I move it).

    What monsters are poorly designed?

I, Tyrant, the 2E D&D book on beholders, has an anatomy diagram for them. They do have an elimination orifice on their "lower back."

    Ghostwalk

That was sorta our point, to take away the fear of death in that setting. It lets you do some crazy things with adventures and as a PC, too.

When the rules can go hang...

I might've ruled that by going underwater as part of his dive, the barbarian was "around the corner" and thus the monster couldn't AOO him. ;)

    Election-themed feats at SeanKReynolds.com

I know political discussion here is taboo, but as a joke I posted some bipartisan feats relating to today's presidential election. Check them out here. If you want to talk about them (they're completely unserious) come to my boards.

    Gorgon Sisters?

I'll chip in on Kamizae's post and say that stories differ to their origin. In The New Argonauts, I went with the version that says Euryale and Sthenno were immortal monsters, and Medusa was a human woman cursed into an ugly form. E and S were immortal, M was not, and that's why Perseus was able...

Writing for Dragon - Good or Bad?

The only drawback to writing for Dragon is the same problem writing for most businesses in the RPG industry: you're paid on publication, which means you often have to wait months before you get a check. That said, the folks at Paizo are great and I'm happy to work with them any time.
