Weapon: Scourge stats? and what is it made from?

I think if you oil the leather well enough, any liquid-based poison isn't going to be able to penetrate the oil, so you don't have to worry about the weapon sucking up the poison before it gets to your enemy.

Official abbreviations for Classes (Core & Prestige)

There's only a limited list (the PH classes and the DMG prestige classes, and the FRCS prestige classes as well since the FRCS is considered a core book for FR games) so if you see a character statted in a sourcebook you don't have to wonder what Ftr10/AoS2/FSp1/SrA1/ScS1* is, or you at least...

Why no WotC M:tG and D&D crossover?

It got a laugh out of me.... :)

Why no WotC M:tG and D&D crossover?

IIRC the version that I playtested was much more like "Magic creatures in a D&D setting." One PC was a Hurloon minotaur, I was a prodigal sorcerer (he had normal spellcasting ability like a wizard, but at any time he could cast a magic missile at caster level 1 without draining any of his...

Why no WotC M:tG and D&D crossover?

Basically it's because some of the brand people for Magic didn't want a crossover monster book unless the book could maintain the Magic brand's tenets, including collectability. Trust me, the idea of a Magic RPG, or even just a Magic monster book, was a VERY popular idea among the RPG designers...

    PBeM Help

I rec'mend the PBEM FAQ, archived at my site here: http://www.seankreynolds.com/rpgfiles/misc/pbem_faq.html (though I did not author it). Also, as an example of a PBEM, you might want to check out Chapter 1 of my college PBEM's log: http://www.seankreynolds.com/rpgfiles/misc/pbem/

FR, GH, AU - character power levels

FR material was designed and balanced to the same standards that core material was held to. In fact, the Word From On High (the D&D brand team) to the FRCS designers was "A Forgotten Realms character can be no more powerful than a similarly-equipped core character." Yes, some mistakes were...

    Thumbs Down to 3.5 Edition

Well, I haven't seen the assertion that they need to be _exactly_ right. I mean, a barbazu ftr10 is still a choice opponent whether you list his glaive attack correctly at +19 or make a small goof and list it at +20. Anyway, I think "precision" involved just a concern of high-level play, not...

    Thumbs Down to 3.5 Edition

Al'Kelhar said: {The philosophy underlying D&D 3E is to minimise the effect of Rule 0. I'll reiterate that in bold, varied slightly for emotional impact: The philosophy underlying 3E is to remove the DM from the game. Accordingly, game balance must be inherent in the ruleset, as the DM no longer...

    FR - Home Planes?

{The Great Wheel is the standard D&D cosmology:} Actually, the Great Wheel is the _sample_ D&D cosmology, just as Greyhawk is the _sample_ D&D campaign setting. In 3E it is no longer a standard; the 3E Manual of the Planes shows you how to build a cosmology, and gives an example: the Great...

Book of Exalted Deeds Excerpts up

It will be interesting to see how this compares to my book Anger of Angels (Malhavoc Press), which also discusses celestial influences and good vs. evil. I've already noticed some similar elements in the preview (for example, the exalted arcanist gets access to some Good cleric spells as arcane...

Sorcerers and spell components. What were they thinking!

From my opinions on the PH classes article (http://www.seankreynolds.com/rpgfiles/misc/PH_opinions_classes.html): Sorcerers and Material Components: Sorcerers, according to the PH rules, must use any components required for spells he casts. While a sorcerer’s knowledge is innate (while a...

    Magic Items that grant feats

Be careful with making items that grant feats. At high-level, PCs have so much wealth that it's often easier to drop 20,000 gp on four single-feat items than to worry about which feat they'll actually choose with their granted feats.

Morrus - why people are having board probs

Morrus - I sent you this in email a couple of weeks ago but haven't seen it addressed, so I'm posting it here on the off chance there's something hookie between your email and mine. The reason why some people are having problems posting is because they're still going to the old boards (I know...

"Quality Standards" in the d20 System Guide

{Now, Sean, you weren't REALLY trying to twist a definition by omitting portions that were potentialy harmful to your argument to suit your own purposes and pulling a Jaros by making the word mean what you wanted it to mean there, were you? Bad Sean! No cookie!} Actually, I just don't like big...
