What really makes me mad about this product is that YET AGAIN they didn't give me proper credit on the cover. Oh, but how nice, instead of listing me as "cover model," I've been demoted on the credits page to "Stunt Butt for Mr. Pacino." Great.

Well, the FR campaign treats the FRCS as a core book. Duplicating info from the FRCS would be like duplicating info from the PH: redundant, and (while convenient so you wouldn't have to flip between books) wasting space that could otherwise be used for new material. Edit: ... and that's pretty...

Hasbro would have bought TSR, and the rounds of layoffs would have started several years earlier. D&D would not be as big as it is now, and you'd probably see a reissuing of the 3E PH, DMG, and MM every year with a few cosmetic changes.

Which means you're not creating the MM monster any more. You're basically designing a new class with a funny shape. That defeats the point of making a class that recreates a monster, doesn't it?

For any creature whose ECL is higher than its HD, you're going to have to have one or more levels where it doesn't gain any hit dice. Otherwise your monster class ends up granting more HD than the original creature, which means your monster class should have a higher ECL than how you built it....

If it's not, then "ogre" no longer means just one thing. If you write an adventure and say "this room has four ogres," players and DMs will wonder, "Are these MM ogres? Or are they ogres built with Savage Species"? Terminology means something in the new D&D. A word (or spell, or monster) means...

According to Planescape, perhaps. But 3E D&D doesn't use PS rules. If every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings ... doesn't that mean that even angels start out as something weaker than full angel power?

Actually, WotC just wanted all of its brands to be unified under one name and one logo: Wizards of the Coast. The TSR brand wasn't poisoned in their mind, and it wasn't done for the sake of 3e (it started January 2000, so affected all products from there onward).
