Anyone know about the book on Robert Kuntz?

I'm sure most of us have heard of Robert Kuntz from the early days of D&D and Piped Piper Publishing. He was Gary Gygax co-DM also. Anyone know details about the new book with his name on it?

Tomb of Horrors - example of many, or one of a kind?

ToH isn't unfair. AD&D and old school is habanero peppers you'll get burnt if your careless. ToH is concentrated habanero...you'll get lite up like a Christmas tree if your careless. ToH is distilled challendges. It shatter quite a few big ego's back in the day that had high level characters...

An Opportunity for WotC in 2009

2e was fun and had it's moments of good. A 20th anniversary set would be nice. Where 2e jumped the tracks was with the late 2e materials ie 2.5e with the special powers splat books etc.

Gleemax is a well named site - IMHO here's why...

I understand what you mean but some of the little hobby shops seem to feel that way.

Gleemax is a well named site - IMHO here's why...

It's actually, all ment in good fun. I've been thru this before several times actually. Didn't have the internet back in 1989 when 2e showed up so it wasn't as easy to talk with folks etc. Of course, when 3e appeared in 2000, lived thru it again. While I am poking a little fun at my 3e D&D...

D&D 4E Directly from a quote- 8 classes in 4e! (well, now subject to much debate)

Without a doubt. I hated the billion classes in the old 3/3.5 game. It was a turn off. Eight total classes is an excellent step in the correct direction. It will be good to see each archtype matter, again.

    Increased magic across the board?

More magic will work in the game, if the feats, plethora of classes, and excessive skills are simplified and reduced. Those things tend to make up a good bit of the power in 3e, if they are reduced and magic added back to the game, you can still have a reasonablely balanced game with a good bit...

Gleemax is a well named site - IMHO here's why...

Well at least WotC named their 4e sight right with "Gleemax", because they've put the "Max Glee" in my online experience for the last week watching 3e crash & burn. This board has been so interesting, I've found myself over here a lot in the last week. In fairness, I do feel for the players and...

What happens if we don't like it?

The best fix is to abandon apostascy and pick up some AD&D books, (PHB, MM & DMG) all for less than the cost of the 4e PHB. Try the old game with your group. Fix the stuff you don't like in AD&D. It's outstanding with a good DM. If you really need for your game to be in print, Castles &...

D&D 4E So Where Do I Sign Up with WotC, To Play Test 4e?

So Where Do I Sign Up with WotC, To Play Test 4e? Read they were taking play testers. Figured as bad as they screwed up 3rd edition, being an old grognard, I'd try to help them with a little play testing for 4th.

    PHB, MM, DMG covers

Looks much better than the garbage that passed for a book cover in 3/3.5, of course it would really take trying to make something uglier than a 3 version book. Would the white top border look better in gold or black?

Why are we trying to make 1st level PCs tougher?

Remathillis, First thanks for reading my comments. I think you make a very good point about would the DM be happy if every encounter was set up like a SWAT team assault. The answer of course is no, however I’ve never seen any DM mind that sort of thing being done some or a good bit of the...

    D&D 4E Will 4E be backwards compatible?

They badly needed a new edition for a lot of reasons. Most of the market, that will play 3/3.5e have the core books. They can sell a lot of stuff with a new edition. WotC makes more money with the new edition. The current edition is badly flawed in required prep time, load on the DM, excessive...

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Style

I've grown used to ignoring WotC on D&D due to 3e, so I'm not one to get my hopes up, but some old school cues & hints are there in the art. It's better than the spiked hair, tats, & piercing look of the 3e game. Could 4th Edition actually be worth playing and DMing? Time will tell, but the game...

D&D Needs WOW Players, Not Us

WotC cares about making money, it's natural because it's part of publicly held company. They'd like to make the old gamers happy, the current crop of 3e ones, and get some new gamers too. If the game gets a solid influx of new players, it doesn't matter if the players come from WoW or not...

    D&D 4E Will you buy 4e?

If 4e-3e=1e, then Yes In other words, if they have taken the bad 3e stuff (excessive DM prep time for instance) out of 4e and has a good 1e feel to it, I will buy it. If 4e is just 3e in drag, I won't buy it.

Why are we trying to make 1st level PCs tougher?

Sure it will take some time to discuss but after a time or two they should have a pretty fair idea of what to do. As for the novice adventurers/tactical genius - if you were a novice and faced wtih a potential life or death event, wouldn't you take a little time to think thru it and set it up...

    How to deal with goblins

Well the bard sounds like a classic "liberal" with the goblins are people too mantra. The DM should be able to really have some fun with this. My advice to the Bard is buy a whip, use it often and don't tolerate back talk, not matter how hard that is. Once they understand your the boss, then...
