D&D 4E 4E Popularity Contest: Which D&D Experience preview character is your favorite?

Wonky Divine Challenge aside (and that's been confirmed fixed well before DDXP), the Paladin got me most excited. Followed very closely by the Ranger.

D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

Yay, another "mechanics kills roleplaying" thread.

    Paladin Divine Challenge Fixed

Not necessarily. Plus the markee doesn't have to kill the marker. One of the markee's allies could.

    Paladin Divine Challenge Fixed

Which is kinda why they fixed Divine Challenge. It's probably going to involve the Paladin not being able to just stand there.

    Paladin Divine Challenge Fixed

As has been pointed out already, marks have a defense. Attack the guy that marked you. Bada-bing, no penalties, and in the case of the Paladin, no getting zapped.

    D&D 4E Verisimilitude IMPROVEMENTS in 4e

*crosses fingers* Those patently retarded Darth Maul-inspired double weapons from 3e gone. Again, wishful thinking ... but it could happen.

    Paladin. Disappointing

That's possible. They've really got to sell it, though. Running off outright, yeah, probably. The Paladin would issue a challenge to another enemy, then. Swallowing an invisibility potion in mid-combat or slipping around a corner? Sorry buddy, I'm on to you.

    Paladin. Disappointing

Actually, it would. It would even make it worse if you let the enemy break line of effect. Then the enemy would just have to close the door or go around a corner. However, you do bring up a good point. Perhaps I should add: - If the Paladin commits an action that breaks line of sight or line...

    Paladin. Disappointing

You're missing the point. The POINT is that we're trying to force the Paladin to play fair with his Divine Challenge without nerfing the crap out of him. And line of sight maintenance WOULD nerf the crap out of him. And the Rogue can still surprise strike at the Wizard, mind you. But he'll pay...

    Paladin. Disappointing

To mark a target in the first place? I'd agree. To remove a mark -- an ongoing divine effect -- in such a simple fashion as hiding or invisibility? Something else entirely. And introducing a very unneeded side nerf. - Line of sight maintenance would be a nerf. - Melee attack or move toward...

    Paladin. Disappointing

I'm sorry, but that doesn't even make any sense. Why would an ally prevent the defender from doing his job? Keep in mind that Divine Challenge is being used in a case where the battle has already started. Context, man. Context. And another reason why line of sight vanishing is a problem: what...

    Paladin. Disappointing

They're also attack rolls. You can't target what you can't see. And before I travel down the path of your red herring any further, I'm just going to remind you of what the issue here is: Coward Paladin. That is the problem. The ONLY problem.

    Paladin. Disappointing

Nah, I still don't like it. The divine should have further reach than mere line of sight, good or evil. The ONLY issue here is preventing "mark and run." My solution would prevent this and still allow the Divine Challenge to keep its intended power and flexibility.

    Paladin. Disappointing

I disagree with this. The enemy's cowardice should NOT dispel a mark. If a Paladin's mark should vanish it's because it's his own fault for being a coward. I do NOT want a line of sight maintenance requirement. I stand by my suggestion: the Paladin must close distance with or make a melee...

    Paladin. Disappointing

Hmm, how about this: Upon issuing the Divine Challenge, the Paladin must act as an aggressor in combat to maintain his mark. Acting as an aggressor includes either moving toward or attacking an enemy in melee (not necessarily the mark) within a given turn. There. Simple, and it allows the...

    Ranger powers- is this correct?

No more gamey than combat advantage, really. HQ and WC would be quite broken if it were free selection. They're already more versatile than SA to begin with. It forces Ranger and Warlock players to utilize movement properly if they want to get closer to their preferred target. The Ranger might...

    Ranger powers- is this correct?

Except that of a crossbow, which I'll willing to bet is probably less than that of a longbow.
