    Utilities/software useful for a DM

Just a note -- I found the managers (I use DM GEnie) incredibly useful even though almost all die rolls were done with regular dice. They're terrific for tracking hit points, initiative order, and spell/effect durations. The only die rolling I automated was initiative, since it was a hassle...

    DarkMatter d20?

I don't have the original so I'm rather happy it's largely a reprint (at least for the non-rules portions). It's rather unlikely that bringing someone in to re-write all that material would have improved it -- for supporting evidence see the Psycho remake.

Any fans of the Second World Sourcebook?

Thanks -- I'll just go ahead and add that to my shopping cart then. It's the Advanced Player's Manual though, right?

Any fans of the Second World Sourcebook?

Yeah, that always struck me as a real issue with running someone who had to use the d20 Modern basic classes for the first 3 levels. A feat or talent like the following should work: Magical Study: Intense study of the magical arts increases your spellcasting ability, but at a terrible price to...

Any fans of the Second World Sourcebook?

I'd likely make them pretty much like the rune warden download -- more like a regular spellcaster. It'd be nice to include some bindings as well, since players like not having to rely on magic items, but these would be purchased with the 1 per 3 levels feats, and thus might feel a little...

[Ptolus] The Power Level of NPCs

Do you really think that those attributes were rolled for using the 4d6 method? The odds seem pretty unlikely that they'd all turn out that way. It's not about knowing or not-knowing. It's about being fair. It's not a storm. Who said it was a storm? I said, and I quote: "I'd be a bit...

[Ptolus] The Power Level of NPCs

I'm sympathetic to the OP on this one. If I were a player and the GM regularly assigned attribute scores to NPCs that I couldn't achieve even after 20 levels I'd be a bit annoyed. One nice feature of 3e+ is that they really tried to do as much as possible to make it so that the players and NPCs...

    Discouraging Spotlight Hogging

You could try splitting the party up every so often -- have misisons where the two spotlighters go do one thing and the others do something else. This might help establish some equal time-sharing that'll last after the mission splits.

Any fans of the Second World Sourcebook?

That's true, but my concern is/was that what I'd put together would look an awful lot like house-ruled versions of existing magic systems -- since there are things that are fairly close to what I'd like to do. For instance, I think that Green Ronin's True Sorcery could work for Tone Wardens. My...

Any fans of the Second World Sourcebook?

Thanks much for all the kind words everyone! I'm glad to see that people are able to get some use out of the book. In retrospect I think devoting so much of the book to the organizations just in New York detracted from more general utility, but I had these ideas for influence I wanted to get...

[Dreamscarred Press] Untapped Potential: New Horizons in Psionics

I haven't had a chance to look fully through the text so far but just wanted to say that I'm really liking what I'm seeing. The Society Mind class is both a cool idea and well-executed. The best rules manage to integrate mechanics and description so that playing the character feels like what...

    GameTap and Planescape

It's $10 a month right now -- and the value would depend on whether or not they keep getting good games. They offer a bunch of other stuff too, HoMM IV, Ultima 1-5, buckets of arcade stuff. If they have enough interesting stuff come out per month then I might stick it out.

The 10-foot pole, antithesis of what adventuring should be?

My groups don't go much in for them nowadays, and I can see the Indiana Jones point -- but I've also found the 10 foot pole to feel very immersive. Back in my teens, we'd occasionaly go hiking out in the woods, even through some shallow streams, and have our walking sticks to make sure that we...

[Dreamscarred Press] Untapped Potential: New Horizons in Psionics

Great! Now the only question as to which store gets my money first is whether RPGNow fixes its recent system burps before ENWorld gives me access to my unpaid earnings. :p

    d20 Dark*Matter Street Date

Sorta off topic but mucho kudoes for The Coriolis Effect! My players and I enjoyed that scenario and imported the NPCs from it into a number of Champions games.

What Would Your Eberron CRPG Feature?

I thought I read that despite the large number of game-crippling bugs, the shovelware that was Temple of Elemental Evil had sold rather well. If they just fixed the bugs on that engine I'd buy every game they published using it.

Thanks for the heads up! It looks like their site is getting hammered. It took me a while to just setup a username.
