[2WS] New Release -- Skill Focus: Talking, and now all books available at ENWorld

Second World Simulations pokes its head out into the dusty daylight to announce the first new book in... (well, perhaps best not to go into that) has been released. I've been waiting until I had something new to join the ENWorld Gamestore, and here it is so here we are -- our ENWorld storefront...

D20 Dark Matter at the WotC site

I was seriously considering that, but some of the reviews for the Alternity Core Books say the scans can be pretty hard to read, so I might trawl half-price books and E-Bay for a while first.

Totally Obscure Game of the Day

I loved that game too -- very fun.

    Project Javelin Cancelled

Sorry, I meant my original statement as a conditional -- that *if* d20 Modern based third party book sales dropped below Spycraft 2 based book sales, then d20 Modern might fully die. But, as you say, that doesn't seem too likely given the way things are now, especially since the third party...

    Project Javelin Cancelled

One interesting difference is that those games didn't have a cadre of third party publishers who could continue to publish materials based on them. Those publishers might all jump ship to Spycraft 2, but I figure only after they've seen sales from d20 Modern stuff decline to the point where the...

Are your adventures selling? If not lets figure out why.

I suspect that this will all end badly. Some cheerful adventure publisher might actually chip in here, then promptly get a face full of "your adventures suck, that's why they're selling badly" -- which might be true, but also might not be true since one primary reason d20 publishers' adventures...

Northern Crown - Did it go anywhere

Today I found the Gazetteer at Half-Price Books for... er, half-price. Nice for me -- the maps of the Northeast will work well for my, ah, home campaign. It's good to have North America as wilderness, with lots of terrain. The maps also include notes for navigable rivers, which could be handy...

    Are RPGNow's Servers Having Problems?

I was just going to post about this too! Also, the RPGHost Super Secret Publisher forum (well, maybe sorta secret...) isn't loading at all. Any, seems appropriate to come here to ask since when ENWorld's down I typically go there to ask. :D

    Project Javelin Cancelled

I agree. Since they actually publishes a whole hardcover, and released a bunch of arcana material into the SRD -- I'd think that would have been the best option. Adventure paths give gamemasters and players a good model of what to do in a world.

    Project Javelin Cancelled

That would be unfortunate. I'd enjoy seeing a d20 Modern Second Edition -- be a good test bed for, er, various possible rules changes.

    Pronouns

When 3.5 came out we didn't ask whether WotC was violating the rules when the new ranger had 6 skill points per level. The rules are just what we make up. What we could ask is whether a ranger with 6 points per level worked better over all. Likewise, there are no rules of language inscribed in...

Do Personal Opinions Of Authors, Etc Dissuade You From Purchases?

I'm with Crothian on this -- already too much material for me to use so I'll forego the plagiarizers. I'll also forego publishers who strike me as unresponsive or hostile to reasonable customer concerns. I will not forego a publisher just because they're from a different political party or...

Northern Crown - Did it go anywhere

I wanted to pick it up just because I could use the maps and other materials as a nice resource for my, er, own game -- the technology levels would be very close to right. But I balked at the 2 books for $30 apiece. I do want to pick it up sometime -- but maybe via PDF.

I'm using they/them/their now, but it's not like I'll stop buying your books, picket your office, or notify the language police if you use a different option. Also, I think the WotC way is kind of cute -- sort of makes me think of the character as the iconic when they're talking about a class.

Robin Laws posts a column about the industry that's actually salient and sane

Frankly, there just isn't -- not unless they have the same fondness for trying out new game systems that you do. This is one of the problems that the OGL was trying to fix -- to keep the market from fragmenting into a bunch of groups who've each mastered a different game system and now are less...

Robin Laws posts a column about the industry that's actually salient and sane

Not only that, but with a miniature or MtG card my attention-deficit-disorder self can use it one gaming night, feel satisfied, then get bored and want to buy a new bunch of minis to use next week. With MtG there's always the "I'd like to try a red/blue deck next" thing to keep me trying and...

Robin Laws posts a column about the industry that's actually salient and sane

This is also true of the car industry, given that I've only got a fixed lifespan and each car I buy lasts me around five years or so, but the car industry (er, at least the foreign ones) seem to hold on okay. I take it that the main point is that the car industry doesn't over-produce cars...

Where do you prefer to do your roleplaying? (Online vs. Tabletop)

I prefer in person -- but you go long enough without a game and, believe me, you'll play it by carrier pigeon if you have to.

Emulating Call of Cthulhu with Spycraft

I've been thinking of doing this as well, since Delta Green would fit so nicely. My plan was to just use SC2's stress damage as written, then assign values for different sanity losses. If you wanted to keep the long term effects it seems just porting over the Sanity rules would likely work...

    Anyone picked up True Sorcery?

Yah, that seems like a very good strategy. A hundred eyes from overly-anal gamers can catch a lot more glitches than two eyes from even the best editor.
