Use per day Staffs instead of charges?

Yah, charges for staffs seems to suck. I've never seen any of my players build or even keep one. Rods, OTOH, are quite cool and I've considered simply eliminating rods altogether and simply making them staffs.

Honor and Corruption is Now in Print!

Just wanted to say that this is a very cool book. The mechanics are really sharp.

    Spycraft 2.0 is awesome!

AEG was quite friendly when I asked permission in the past -- however, the poor AEG design team is also horribly busy and can take a while (like months) before responding. I imagine with Phil doing this for a living, delays like that would make it difficult for him to plan products around...

Ruins of the Dragonlord - Thoughts?

Yeah, the maps in Drow War leave something to be desired as well. However, it's more of an overland campaign so maps aren't so much an issue. And in the spots where players pop into something like a dungeon the maps are serviceable. Hopefully Mongoose will improve the maps in future books. I...

Attacks of Opportunity are ruining D&D!!

The Attacks of Opportunity section in my Player's Handbook died and now smells like rotten hamsters.

Why I only buy open content

Re: True20 As far as I can tell Green Ronin opened all the text in the PDF version since there aren't character or place names in it. That's pretty generous if you ask me. I think you ought to overcome your resistance to indirect referencing. Big companies use it in their OGL only books so...

    GC 2006 - Ptolus Hardback $120!?!

800 pages of Sigil Actually I hope WotC gets on the big book bandwagon and puts out an 800-1000 page book on Sigil -- complete with Thomas Guide level of detail map (well, maybe not that detailed) and whatever updated Planescape stuff they'd need. It seems the one big book would be a good way...

    GC 2006 - Ptolus Hardback $120!?!

The previews look terrific -- gorgeous and well organized for use. I like the travelogue format and featured NPCs and so on in the sidebars. As far as price goes -- I thought World's Largest Dungeon was worth it's $100 tag and 120 seems reasonable for this. And I love big, ultra-detailed...

    Spycraft 2.0 is awesome!

I'll chime in with a me-too here. Very impressed with the skills section and dramatic conflict section -- over 100 pages devoted to non-combat ways to challenge your players. Also, the design team did a great job unifiying the dramatic conflict rules -- took all the nice systems from the...

Seeking reviews or comparisons of: Fantasy Grounds, kLoOge.Werks and Screenmonkey

In defense of Fantasy Grounds, the dice there do the same thing as the dice in my cup -- and they've worked good for me for about 25 years. Sometimes I find overly-automated features a hassle since they require too much prep time and aren't as friendly for on-the-fly scenarios. That said...

Seeking reviews or comparisons of: Fantasy Grounds, kLoOge.Werks and Screenmonkey

I've purchased all three and am torn between Fantasy Grounds and Klooge. Fantasy Grounds has been far more stable for me, and doesn't run in clunky Java. Also, I find myself oddly drawn to the little gimmick of actually rolling the dice -- it's actually fun to do on screen. However, Klooge has...

[Spycraft 2.0] Hey Phil Reed! Are you making a fantasy version?

A League of Extraordinary Spies would be awfully cool, but perhaps with more of a classic D&D feel by putting lots of ruins full of hack and slash challenges in Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America. Then assign some gadget point costs to magical artifacts. I've never done the 19th...

Mongoose's "The Drow War I - The Gathering Storm"

I'm still reading through it -- and liking it a lot. I had mentioned elsewhere that it felt like Masks of Nyarlathotep, in scope, flexibility, and internal coherence. I'm taking my time since it will likely be a while before I get a group together again. One thing I plan to do is pick up WotC's...

Classes and Levels or Point buy

I'm going to wimp out and say I like both, for different campaigns. Point buy feels like it handles better games where players start competent (like the equivalent of a 6th lvl character) and get more versatile with experience, instead of substanitally more powerful with experience. Point buy...

Would this be as inappropriate as I think?

I'm curious. Do you (and others here) believe this to be both a moral and legal requirement? For instance, one thing I know about writers is that they use up a lot of ink -- and that makes those discount ink or toner cartridges available both online and in office supply stores pretty tempting...

    The PDF Review Project

You're right Aus, but it also so happens that RPGNow has a section that automtatically links to RPG.net reviews right below the RPGNow reviews -- so convenience might still be it.

[2WS] Second World Sourcebook now available at RPGNow

Thanks all for the support. I still think I can convince people that the Orca are cool if I could just get Pixar to do an animated feature centered on one!

[2WS] Second World Sourcebook now available at RPGNow

The Second World Sourcebook, well-reviewed here at ENWorld, is now available in PDF format via RPGNow. This version has been updated for 3.5 and includes, as an appendix, the Pact System.

Skills in Iron Heroes (nifty observations, too)

Yah, very nice -- and some more juice for the skill system, which can always use more juice. I also like the way this moves skills more towards being like little powers, and that players can have a concrete idea of what capabilities they'll gain by pushing their skill bonus up to various...
