    Any love for Jakandor?

My thoughts as well. 2e was drowing under campaign worlds at the time, and Jakandor was just too quirky for its own good. I loved the idea of Jakandor, especially the Charonti, but I knew most of my group wouldn't like it. Tell most players that they have to be human with a very limited class...

    The Lich (Origins)

Would anyone consider Dorian Gray a lich? BTW, there's a Lichfield in the UK which is definitely rimes with "itch". Don't think many people know what it means though.

Looking for a big, good, Dwarf Stronghold adventure

DL4 Dragons of Desolation has a ridiculously large dwarven city. It's based on geomorphs - there's a large scale map showing the blocks of the city, and about 15 templates. IIRC, most of the city is abandoned, but there are still dwarves in one section.

How to treants feel about mistletoe?

I've just taken my first walk in the local woods after the recent North European storms, and with all the trees and branches which have come down, I've seen large quantities of mistletoe close up for the first time. Some of these bunches are huge. Anyway, mistletoe is a parasite and a plant...

Do created beings have nipples and navels?

The really real question is: do created beings have a functional appendix? Imagine creating an army of soldiers who only need to eat grass.

Do created beings have nipples and navels?

Their creators probably put them on for aesthetic reasons. I know I would :o

So what is the history of Sorcerors

Took the words right out of my mouth (though I'd've spelled them right :p (actually, I might have spelled them as sorcers just to be ultra-pedantic) ) 2e had sorcerers - they were called dragons. Remember, only the silver and gold dragons had spellbooks, the rest just got their spells...

Deck of Many Things: Your experiences and advice?

The only time I've used one was when the whole campaign was undergoing a big shift. One character drew donjon, so part of the new campaign was to rescue him. Another player got flames, so that gave us the villain. The party got about 6 wishes out of it and few other good things. As other...

    Worst Puns you ever did.

I once used a cursed item from an April edition of Dragon magazine - the Ring of the Spell "Turning" So this fighter's had it on for a few sessions when he gets targetted by a fireball. Giving the mage the finger (adorned with said ring), he's horrified to see little a mouth open up on the...

ever run a campaign on a real-world map?

I've done this twice. The first time, I had sea and land mixed up, so the Atlantic ocean became the main continent (yes, I called it Atlantis), island chains became rivers and lakes became islands. Worked pretty well. The party never got to the other side, so I didn't have to worry about the...

Games With Automatic Escalating Hit Points?

Never played it that way, but Rolemaster had so many extra rules in strange places that you could be right.

A New Respect for Adventure Writters

I agree. I've tried writing adventures for submission to Dungeon, and never got past the draught stage. An encounter that comes across really well when it's just a few notes and a hand drawn map being mostly ad-libbed by me falls flat when I try and detail it fully. I've a lot of respect for...

Games With Automatic Escalating Hit Points?

Most Fantasy system's I'm aware of have HP advancement to some degree Dragon Warriors: Gain 1 hit point every few levels, depending on class Palladium: 1d6 hp per level regardless of class, IIRC Rolemaster: 1d10 hp per pick (0, 1 or 2 per level depending on class and player choices) Runequest...

Has anyone tried a primordial D&D setting?

Why not play in Glorantha? The 3rd age is barely 1,500 years after the creation of the world. Mongoose's edition is set even earlier. You get spirits, shamans and barbarians a-plenty, iron is a fantastic magical material and everybody's still trying to master this "city" business. Adapting it...

    Wuxia and D&D

The 2e historical supplement The Celts had some proficiencies which resembled wuxia - leaping, balancing, that sort of thing. Many western folklores feature characters who would feel right at home in an wuxia film - Celts, Finns and Circassians for example. Even folklores with more mundane heros...

    Frisian (Frisii)

Are these people based on the real world Frisians by any chance? Anyway, rather than ability modifers, I find a few skill modifiers work well to give flavour without being overpowered. You might also want to plunder Forgotten Realms and Oriental Adventures for regional and ancestral feats.

Mayfair "Role Aids" products: Favorites? Conversions?

I ran several adventures from Wizards - very inventive, but watch the power levels, there's some seriously good magic items in there. Pinched loads of ideas from Undead. Although I was impressed by Witches and Lizardfolk, I never used much from them. I've got a few of their smaller adventures...

Info on the Riddlemaster kit (Complete Bards)

I remember they had the strange ability to give two answers to a riddle, and if either was correct they got the riddle right. Don't remember much else; I'll look them up when I get home.

Help! Running B10: Night’s Dark Terror

Well, I love the whole module, including the wandering around looking for stuff (great side plots!), but I agree that if you want any chance of finishing it in time, start at the valley, especially if your friend has alreay played the first bit. The statues are an excellent encounter. We played...

    BECM D&D UK Editions?

I remember it. It had the same material as the red boxed set. A number of RPGs had been released as paperbacks in the UK (Fighting Fantasy, Dragon Warriors and Stormbringer (no, not Elric, something else with a similar name)), and I think TSR were just exploiting a new niche.
