I think the actaeon might be better as a fey than a monstrous humanoid. The "Ecology of the Actaeon" article in 1E Dragon Magazine made it seem like a wholly magical entity, and it's also fairly similar in concept to the shatjan from The Horde, which was converted as a fey.

I'd call Greg Rucka one of the best writers DC has to offer. His run on Adventures of Superman has been excellent IMO. I'd recommend the prose novelization of No Man's Land as well, also by Rucka.
