    Lodoss War - any good?

That's how I'd been following the series, too. Up until a few weeks ago they'd gotten up to episode 20-something, but then, all of a sudden, they went straight back to the first two episodes, which really annoyed me since I'd spent around three months following the storyline. Basically, story...

    Clash [JLU] - SPOILERS

This was the first episode of JLU I've had a chance to see in several months, and I was very happy with what I saw. Captain Marvel is an old favorite of mine, and the portrayal was perfect. I've heard that WB once had plans for a Shazam! animated series starring the Marvel Family -- I wonder if...

Converting original D&D and Mystara monsters

I think the actaeon might be better as a fey than a monstrous humanoid. The "Ecology of the Actaeon" article in 1E Dragon Magazine made it seem like a wholly magical entity, and it's also fairly similar in concept to the shatjan from The Horde, which was converted as a fey.

looking for a beastman like playable race!

I think it was issue #2, but I don't recall. They're about 5' tall, humanlike build, animal-like nose and pointed ears, covered in fur that changes color to match their surroundings. They're NG, live in forests and jungles, and have a completely egalitarian society. They're completely atheistic...

Need new races/creature ideas for Xen'drik drow game

Keith Baker had an article in Dragon a few months ago about the umbragen, a drow offshoot that worships Khyber.

Need some new Anime to watch!

Oh man, I loved that movie. Simply hilarious. Biiko Daitokuji (Lex Luthor as a schoolgirl?) has got to be my favorite anime villain of all time. How can you go wrong with fully automatic wrist-mounted missile launchers?

Need some new Anime to watch!

I heartily recommend Fullmetal Alchemist. It's got a lot going for it -- an original premise, great animation and voice acting (at least on the dubbed version, I haven't seen it with subtitles), interesting characters, an intriguing plot, comedy, drama, action... it's a great ride. The...

    Of things Batman...

I'd call Greg Rucka one of the best writers DC has to offer. His run on Adventures of Superman has been excellent IMO. I'd recommend the prose novelization of No Man's Land as well, also by Rucka.

    D&D and Manga

Record of Lodoss War, which was also adapted into two anime series (or maybe it was the other way around), was based on a series of novels that were inspired by the writer's D&D game. I haven't read the manga, but in the anime you can see a lot of D&D influence, right down to the classic...

Batman Begins sequels to feature the Joker

It's funny, I just saw Batman on TV this morning and was thinking about who could play the Joker in a new movie. I thought that Jack Nicholson did a fine job (with the material he had to work with, at least), but he just didn't look the part -- the Joker's supposed to be well over six feet tall...

    Defining a decade with a movie: 1990s

Definately Jurassic Park. The special effects in that movie blew me away like nothing before or since. Clerks sneaks in as a close second.

    Defining a decade with a movie: 1980s

The Breakfast Club was the first thing to come to my mind when I saw the title... though if it could only be one movie, I would definately choose Some Kind of Wonderful. Honorable mentions include pretty much the entire John Hughes "teen movie" ouvre, plus St. Elmo's Fire, The Empire Strikes...

Where to start for the budding Lovecraftian?

I haven't read any of Derleth's Cthulu Mythos work (a term which, I believe, he coined), but I strongly object to the way he adapted it, by adding the "Elder Gods" as opponents for the Outer Gods and basically turning it into a standard good-versus-evil thing, not to mention forcing various...

Where to start for the budding Lovecraftian?

The Statement of Randolph Carter. Really short story, fun read, it's what introduced me to Lovecraft.

    [NBC] Revelations

I watched most of last night's episode and parts and pieces of the others. So far I'm somewhat insulted by the agenda they're pushing (separation of church and state is a bad thing, etc. -- I'm an atheist), not to mention the way they're blatantly ignoring every religious tradition other than...

    Total of 6 Spidey Movies

It's a pretty big "if," but if the movies do indeed retain their quality, I'm cool with this. Looks like a chance to give all the classic Silver Age Spidey villains a chance to shine. Personally, I'm hoping to see Electro and the Vulture at some point in the future.

Huge donkey ears on elves, halflings, etc...

12-part, actually. It was based on a series of novels (still ongoing, from what I understand) by Ryo Mizuno, which was, yep, based on his D&D campaign. I love Record of Lodoss War -- I've started watching re-runs of it on Comcast On Demand, and I've totally fallen in love with it. There was...

Would you allow this paladin in your game? (new fiction added 11/11/08)

I voted "no." Not because he patrons a brothel -- if his order allows it, then he's okay. I chose "no" because Cedric seems to do good deeds not because it's the right thing to do, but because he doesn't want to deal with the guilt of not doing them. He also doesn't seem to like his order very...
