How often do you use Toughness?

I house ruled Toughness so that it not only adds three HP, but it also extents the threshold for charcter death. What that means is if you take it once you die at -13, -16 if you take it twice and so on. Nobody has taken it yet, but I think it is a good compromise for a weak feat.

Which of the 3.5 books are you going to buy (very soon)?

All three, cause I'm a tool of the system and cause it looks pretty darn cool.

    The problem with FLGS

I was conflicted on this one too, but in the end Amazon won my money this time. For the most part, I shop at the local FLGS in Columbus and have spent a TON of cash there since 3.0 came out, but this time was a little different. While I think 3.5 is going to be great, I am having a hard time...

Gaming catchphrases, expressions, and idioms--what are yours?

From D&D games that I have played in the past... "Nobody sh**s in the morning!" Battle cry of a priest of Lathander who insisted that everyone hold their business until after morning prayers. "Moonbeams and pixie dust and LUBE!" - Making fun of a mage characters penchant for casting Color...

    Worse. Character. Name. Ever!!

I once saw a player get away with the name Xetok for a few months. Not a bad name on the outside, until we figured out it was Kotex spelled backward. :) In a Star Trek game we had a Vulcan XO named Tyvek. Again, pretty cool name until we figured out it was a brand of insulation. I personally...

Worst campaign setting concepts you've ever played

Imagine this....a first time DM with very little gaming experience wants to run a session with two experienced players in his Dragonlance game. We were about 20 at the time with little else to do, so what the heck, we decided to give Marcus his shot. I played a human Psionicist (2nd edition)...

Worst campaign setting concepts you've ever played

Why is it that the second I saw this thread, the word "Spelljammer" jumped into my head? Hmmm.... D&D in space.....leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Then again, its the same reaction every time I see an old Star Trek episode revolving around an Ancient Rome theme.

Columbus, Ohio D&D 3.0 game looking for players for adventure on west side

I have three players lined up and plan to run a Sunday night game at my place just off of Tuttle crossing. I usually run games two weekends on and one off. We will be using 3.0 rules to start with some 3.5 flavor thrown in initially. The game (as planned...) is a Forgotten Realms campaign...

My group needs to feel pain

Give them a taste of their own medicine....such as.... The PCs are walking down a long corridor, and they can see in the mist ahead several vague humanoid shapes coming toward them. As they get closer, they can make out more detail...hmmm...they appear to be armed...one of them is scuttling...

    Swashbuckling Movie Suggestions?

Not an out and out terrible film, but I always liked "Nate and Hayes" with Tommy Lee Jones from 1983. It is set in the waning days of the pirate era/rise of steam powered ships and has a lot of what you are looking for.

How common are dragons in YOUR world?

I have been playing this game since 1991 and have seen a total of ONE dragon. Thats it...just the one, and that is playing with multiple DMs and running campaigns of my own. I don't like to fool with them.

Poll: Who did play in a group where the master had a "pet NPC"?

To ammend my previous post, I did screw up royally once with my NPC. He was a wizard traveling with the party when they were attacked by a group of orcs. The orcs were charging the PCs position when the wizard cast color spray. I rolled REALLY bad for the ocs saves and half of them hit the...

Poll: Who did play in a group where the master had a "pet NPC"?

I have used pet NPCs twice in two different campaigns. I do this for a few reasons. First, they fill in holes in the party makeup, and they give people a character to play for one shot games, visiting players or former PCs when their character buys the farm in midgame. In our last camaign...

Quotes from the grave ( AKA vs. the communist monk)

"So I understand that you have decided not to talk." *Pulling a knife...* "Well then, lets get you out of that skin." "How loud can you scream sir? I'll bet you can scream pretty loud if someone you love were being hurt." "Got your nose!" "Want it back?" "Now you see this..." *holding up a...

[OT] Another step towards nuclear fusion

From what I understand, containing the reaction is easy (things out of control??? Just twist the knob and shut off the deuterium supply.) Its getting the reaction started and sustained that is the hard part. When this works, and it will eventually, its going to change a lot of things on this...
