Mamacat's helpful hints for gaming with couples with or without kids

It all seems to come down to whether or not it is a burden for your group or not. To some, it is and you find a way to work around it. Others don't find it an issue at all. As long as the group talks about how to work around the kids (or any other potential distraction) then that is all that...

Mamacat's helpful hints for gaming with couples with or without kids

Opinions on child rearing and punishment are as varied as taste in soda pop. If you look for more than five minutes you can find "experts" to defend any of those opinions. This is one of those topics much like religion, politics, abortion, and so forth that seems to provoke strong feelings and...

    Abandoning 4th Ed for True20.

Have a good time, no matter which system you plan to use. And the Charmed bit sounds interesting as well.

Mamacat's helpful hints for gaming with couples with or without kids

It hasn't been an issue so far. We've suffered through playing in a crowded youth center with ping-pong balls and the occational pool ball flying by and fifty people screaming in the background, in the all-too-frequent cellphone calls by another player's significant other, the occational pause...

Got into MMO's from Tabletop Gaming?

No, don't think I've been there.

DDM - Collect, play, or what?

Heh, yeah I meant RPGs, although I suppose there are other games you could play with them. Substitute tokens in monopoly? :)

DDM - Collect, play, or what?

I saw this topic being tossed around on the Against the Giant preview pics thread and since there was some discussion as to who was buying the minis and why, maybe a poll will help shed some light on the subject. I don't play the game myself, but instead use them in my D&D gaming.

What 2008 4E products will you buy?

At this point, I'm looking at getting the minis and looking over the rest. We'll see how everything looks from there, and at the very least I may pick up a few things to convert over.

Mamacat's helpful hints for gaming with couples with or without kids

Babysitters are nice, if you can (A) afford them, (B) have someone you can trust, and (C) are absolutely sure how long your session is going to run. Point A is a sticker for a lot of new parents. Sitters have come a long way from when I was a kid and they got paid a few dollars an hour. Now...

Got into MMO's from Tabletop Gaming?

Never played any recent MMORPGs, although I played Cyberstrike many, many years ago as well as some text-based multi-player games. Both experiences were enough to drain any enthusiasm I might have had to spend money for people to be rude to me.

New Faces (Forked: Its the terminology that kills me...)

New faces can be a great addition to any game. It's nice to be at the table with people who don't know (and/or don't try) every tweak of character, who are trying to have fun rather than trying to run the most optimal gamesmasher they can. Someone who doesn't know the books backwards and...

Mamacat's helpful hints for gaming with couples with or without kids

A pretty good list, overall. I'll echo Festivus with regard to playing when the kids are asleep. There are often lulls in the action when my wife or I aren't needed that we can deal with the kids while others get a soda or take a bathroom/smoke break and so on. It's totally doable, it just...

Forked Thread: Its the terminology that kills me...

like a disease? Instead of small pox we got toon? ;) I agree that most of the jargon is a bit off-putting when it isn't something your group regularly uses. I hadn't heard most of the terms until I ran across them here, or from others who had played online games.

    DM and/or player?

I started out as primarily a player, and only get to be just a player infrequently now. I'm primarily the DM whenever we play.

    Dragon 365 Table of Contents

QFT. Instead of being upset about it, Razz3e, look upon it as a blessing. You have the material, and with a bit of work you can tweak it to fit the rules system you desire. Better than not having it all, neh?

What Campaign Settings will you purchase?

I'll be staying primarily with a homebrewed setting. However, depending on the updates to the settings, I could be convinced to grab the Realms, Eberron, Greyhawk, and Spelljammer. I'll also be grabbing Pathfinder's setting as well. Of course, an update would have to be more than a...

    Death of the LGS

Amen. The thread was how to get people interested in their local gaming stores (and Scott's in particular). Quibbling back and forth about economic theory could probably be done elsewhere. Might help to cool things off as well.

    Gnomes: Monster or PC (Poll)

I started in 77 or 78, which put me at 9 to 10 years old at the time. Most of the time I played, at least for the first 10-15 years, I was just about the youngest person at the table. I don't mind the kids, myself, for just that reason. ;)
