    Amazon Germany: Release date shifted

Well, my US preordered DMG still shows June 6, but the MM is showing June 17. Then again, my PHB still shows a May date so I'm not sure these mean much.

    Stephen Schubert's Playtest Reports

For that matter, my DM once rolled the attacks for a Marilith: 6 dice hit the table. 6x *1* == Epic Fumble! I think the odds for that are worse than the odds for the lottery... In any case, if someone has already rolled the dice, the odds of that result are now 100% ;)

    WotC_Rodney...Chris Perkins...a black dragon...a playtest

I've had a lot of 3e combats shorter than 6 rounds, too. I'm not too surprised that 10 or more rounds would be long; even if the players and DM were really cranking out turns, that's probably 30+ minutes of real time. But if it's reasonably likely that a major 4e combat would go for 10 or more...

    d12, the LEAST used die

The recently-revealed pit fiend uses a mace that does d12+11 damage--so d12 is pretty clearly still in.

    WotC_Rodney...Chris Perkins...a black dragon...a playtest

10 rounds is longer than all but one combat I've been involved in since 3e came out; one other combat went longer, but I wasn't present for that session. 10 rounds is long, from what I've seen of 3e!

    Pit Fiend Defenses Explained

That's modestly strange to be sure. On the other hand, most creatures have (always) had higher strength than con/dex/wis--and of the samples we've seen so far, AC is generally higher (but not always!)

    Pit Fiend Defenses Explained

Interesting! (got a source?). That's not what I was expecting, but it seems consistent. And Pitty doesn't get any armor bonus from his Rune-carved breastplate, either. Which does make life easier... And given that his stats are HIGH, I'm going to guess that his defenses are higher than is...

WotC_PeterS: Power Names (UPDATE: They just keep coming)

LOL! This thread delivers :D That's not so much a power as a battle plan! ;)

If the devils are how monsters will be....I am so happy

This makes two assumptions: That the minion has no Death Blast (which could make him more useful as a bomb), and that there is no value in removing a bloodied/impaired minion from the field (at least one of the miniatures game figures can make a whirlwind-type attack, but only if an adjacent...

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Hey, thanks Shroomy! Man, that's a weird devil. Would the 'hive mind' effect mean the Pit Fiend could blow them all up at once? Ka-Blammo! :p And yah, I'm thinking that they'll look rather different in 4e; +4 per devil is nuts!

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

I went back and listened to the Monsters!^3 podcast, and I don't think its a hard-and-fast thing. In some of his encounters, he uses 4 slots, and in some 5. They even mention (in the Dispater's Fortress example) not wanting 5 due to the difficulty. The breakdown: 12th level in Underdark...

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

If you could post a summary description of them when you get a chance, that would help; I've never even seen a copy of FC2, much less read it!

Criticisms of the new stat block format

Yes, but that's already written down in the attack lines. In other words, when running the creature it's inherent bonus is either irrelevant or already included.

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Oh, definitely. I've got a big pack of printable business cards (10 to a sheet) that I'll probably use just like this! And Irresistible Command is just awesome!

    Currency in a POL setting

Interesting ideas! I was going to suggest that it might be relatively easy via cantrip-level magic to validate coinage--but this is a superior solution IMO. It's even consitent with some of the fantastic ideas about gold the alchemists came up with, too. Perhaps one of the mystic properties of...

    Stun/Paralysis effects

Quote Belkar: "When in doubt, set something on fire!" and let it burn! :D (Oddly, I had a Lawful Neutral Mage once that had roughly the same philosophy. Viva la difference! :p )

    Suggestions to replace Halflings

Ironic! :D It even works well with the river-dweller bit; Rats are actually rather good swimmers. Heck, Capybaras are already big enough to be 'people'!

Bits and Pieces of Worlds & Monsters

Actually, there are two assumptions here: that wheels are more effecient in a fantasy universe (not necessarily so--the scaling rules for instance clearly don't follow real-world rules; neither giants or big flyers are physically possible. The relative efficiency of different simple machines is...
