I'm not going to knock your purchase as this is one great book, but the rarity of this item may actually be one of the biggest D&D myths out there. Upon reading this thread, I did a quick search on E-bay and found 8 copies available right now (and those are just the ones I could peg as being...
I've been playing with figures and a battlemat before there were battlemats (I had a couple of DMs who laid out a grid and then put a piece of plastic over that, then would use grease pencils to draw out halls & rooms), and find it really hard to do battles now without one.
My problem with the...
If by "AD&D" you mean "not 3.whatever" edition, then your answer is yes. Getting all the black cover books will allow you to play 2nd edition AD&D.
The black cover books were the last printings of all the 2nd edition books. They also included all the new Player's Option and DM's Option books...
I don't know if this is where your friend got it from, but this puzzle was featured in the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, a rather excellent book that recently came out in paperback. I can't recommend the book enough. Maybe my favorite book of last year.
If you're a fan of TV, I can't recommend http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com
It's a bit slow during the summer months, but it's a great read none the less.
Alot of people don't realize that Leomund's (sp?) Tiny Hut is a great spell for combat in an open area. Get all your spellcasters and bow people close together and cast it around them. They can see out of it, but the bad guys can't see in. I've used that a number of times (both as a player...
Laptops suck for playing Minesweeper. My best time on the laptop is 343. On the family computer it's 198. I have done 6 on the begining level though.
I had a whole bunch of ideas for campaign settings, and then realized that if I spread them out over time, I could put them all on one world. That's what I'm working on right now.
Most of the people I play with do homebrews, so I'd like a map of the areas we would know, a brief history/common knowledge sheet(s) (ie - "The human lands have been led by the Thordrin dynasty for the past 250 years" or "The elves have been our friends, but lately diplomatic meetings haven't...
Thank you everyone for your thoughts on this! I really appreciate it!
The sect idea actually fits in rather well with what I'm planning so that is what I will most likely be going with (there won't be any saints or such type beings at the point I'm begining the campaign. Maybe down the line)...
One strange dream
It starts out with me in the Brady Bunch living room. I'm there with the entire Brady clan, minus Jan. Also there, tied up on a chair, is wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin. He's angry and yelling at me. It turns out that the mob has kidnapped Jan, and I've been hired to...
I've been playing around with a concept for a campaign world. The main factor of it would be that there is one god. The one thing I can't get around is how to handle cleric domains. How would you go about dolling out domains to clerics? If you just let them pick, I would think that everyone...
I think I may have one of the most unique places for playing.
Through the various changes in life, the players in my gaming group are spread throughout most of the south western part of the state. No matter where we played, someone(s) often ended up having to drive an hour to get to the game...
This is a virus! I have a friend who got hit with this last week. He got it the same way (off of BuffyGuide.com). He said it was a pain in the ass to get rid of.
I have a group that gets together every other week to play board games. Catan, Carcassone, Citidals, Frag, Empire Builder, Union Pacific, etc. etc. etc.
I also love card games; Cribbage, Rummy 500 and Poker being my favorites.
