Rules of the Game, Metric II

    Isn't Close range 25 ft. + 5 ft. per 2 caster levels? He has it 25 + 5/caster level.

Need help on Cosmology and Naming of the Gods!

I'm no expert, but you might want to research the Norse mythologies and Greek mythologies. The Norse had the rainbow bridge that lead to Asgard, and the Greek gods lived on Mt. Olympus. These may give you some ideas.

    light shield and wand?

FRCS has potion belts that allow you retrieve one potion per round as a free action. Potion belts hold up to 6 potions and masterwork potion belts hold up to 10. This is one of the few things I use from FR in my Greyhawk campaign.

    Question about Area Dispel

FWIW, I list each effect by caster level. If there is more than one effect at a given caster level, I roll against the higher spell level first. I roll against each ongoing spell whether or not they are the same caster level until one effect is dispelled or no effect is dispelled. The reason...

Dealing damage during touch attack spells

Yes. No. You either make a melee touch attack and do the flame damage, or you make the unarmed strike and deal both the flame and unarmed strike damage. If you miss with the unarmed strike, you don't do any damage but you still hold the charge. There is no AoO when you make melee touch...

Anyone Going to Coscon Near Pittsburgh?

Coscon is sponsered by a gaming club called Circle of Swords (COS). This is their 16th annual convention. They usually have one gameday per month in Butler, offering a variety of games, including Living Greyhawk. I will link their website below. www.circleofswords.com

How do you handle Mapping Complex Dungeons?

I do one of two things. Either I let the players draw their own maps from what they see (what I describe) or I draw the map for them as they explore. We usually use blank graph paper. When a battle begins, I usually draw the area on a battlemap, place the miniatures, and fight it out. For...

Anyone Going to Coscon Near Pittsburgh?

Hello. I just thought I would ask any of you that live in the Pittsburgh area if you were going to Coscon at the Butler Days Inn this weekend? I can only go 1 day (Saturday).

Yet another simple swallow whole question

The T-Rex gets one grapple attack per round. Natural attacks do not get iterative attacks. And you are right, the T-Rex uses his attack to grapple, so he does not get to do both as his action. He can make opposed grapple checks later if his victim tries to escape. I am not sure what you...

    Grease & Mage Hand

That would work. For curiosity's sake, what was the object?

Yet another simple swallow whole question

It sounds right to me. The 3.5 MM (page 315) says that the swallowee takes bite damage when swallowed. And once he is swallowed, the T-Rex is no longer considered grappled.

    CR 9 vs CR 18 ... EP?

Firelance's reading of the XP rules is correct. This was one of the changes made in the 3.5 version. The scenario of lower level characters hiring higher level characters should not happen in a normal game. However, if it did happen, they cannot just stand back and let the higher level guy do...

    Grease & Mage Hand

I agree. I don't think using Mage Hand on the unattended object requires a saving throw. The object itself is not magical. The spellcaster, however, will need a saving throw to hold onto the object when he brings it to himself.

    Attacking into a Grapple?

Check the chart on page 151 of the PH (3.5). Attacking a grappled target that you are not also grappling gives you no bonus or penalty to your attack roll, but your target is denied his Dex bonus to AC for your attack so you may sneak attack if you have that ability. There is no cover and...

    Grappling...

As long as the grappler moved into the target's space when the grapple began, the grapple is maintained (PH, pg. 156, Step 4 under Starting a Grapple). Neither grappler must use an attack or make a grapple check to maintain the grapple. However, if one grappler is trying to escape the grapple...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Eratta? or I found a mistake in my 3.5 DMG?

Right, no DMG errata yet, only PH and MH. But you are correct, the monk's flurry of blows attack progression is incorrect. The monk in question has a Str of 14 throughout the progression until 19th level, where his Str increases to 16 via magic. The progression is not correct at levels 8, 9...

    Wonderful :rolls eyes:

As a DM, I hate it when players come to the table with a higher level character than I asked them to make when beginning a new campaign. What, they have a hearing problem? My friend began a campaign not long ago and asked us to make first level characters. One of the players creates a drow...

When a person provides cover for ranged attacks

There are no rules in 3.5 for hitting the cover in this situation. The target simply is harder to hit because of the cover. If your attack roll is 1 to 4 points less than your target's AC, you miss. It is not assumed that you hit the cover in this case.

Do fumbles add anything to the game?

I no longer use fumbles in my games, but I used two methods in the past. One method was after rolling a natural 1 on an attack roll, roll a confirmation attack roll. If your confirmation attack roll was less than the AC of your target, you fumble. This ensured that higher level, more skilled...
