I think you're right! I had a lot of fun trying to get this grumpy gits into the book, and I think I've managed it. As part of the adventure, you have to go into the mines where the Duergar have enslaved the Deep Gnomes (irony, given their history!), and you can lead a slave revolt to get them...

I like that mental image a lot! I've always likened it to a swan, and the DM screen is the water. You're trying to look cool and collected, but paddling furiously under the water to keep up. Writing set adventures is quite tricky, because there is always going to be an element of pre-planning...

I suppose so! I guess if they get to a point in the adventurer where they are just like 'naughty word it, this is too dangerous, I retire' ... maybe the adventure is a little bit too difficult? :O

Since I've been writing the Blizzard of Axe and Sword, I've really enjoyed delving into my MM to find a whole variety of different folks to fight against. Apart from Frost Giants (a real favourite of mine), I also found situations where I can use the other favourite enemies of mine: the Duergar...

I really like that, while they are huge creatures now, they are different heights. In the MM it states that Frost Giants are 21 ft high - though height shouldn't always indicate strength. A squat giant could be stronger and more dangerous than the taller, slightly rangier Stone Giants.

I'm pretty proud of it, and I'm hoping everyone enjoys it. It's got a lot of positive stuff, even if it's not ... quite ... perfect ... (but nothing ever is, you know?)
