Games you need to go outside your normal group to play

Call of Cthulhu is a game I like to play as a one‑shot or mini campaign. I think the setting works best that way. I don't think it would work as well for me for a long campaign. I'd be interested in hearing from those for whom it is their main game system how common it is for a CoC campaign to...

Do you buy new versions of TTRPG games when you haven't had time to play the older version sitting on your shelf?

Probably because I don't play as much as other, harder‑core fans, but new editions never bothered me. I just don't play enough to feel a need to buy a new edition. My problem in the past was buying so many adventures, settings, and rule expansion books that I don't have the time to use what I...

Games you need to go outside your normal group to play

I know some groups are more flexible than others, but in my experience a group gravitates around a small constellation of games and genres. The players in my group are a mix. I'll occasionally run a one shot for a change of pace. I have one player that has no interest in playing Sci Fi games and...

The price of streaming vs out right owning

Do you regularly watch shows from each of these? Otherwise, it seems like it would save you quite a bit of money by rotating subscriptions.

The price of streaming vs out right owning

Recent job change, relocation, and having to rent in a different city from my family until we can arrange moving the family have necessitating keeping to a tight budget. I use a fancy version of "envelope budgeting" (using YNAB) where every dollar coming in is assigned. Some categories a pretty...

VTT group just played a session in person...should have done a one‑shot of another system or played board games

Had an opportunity to get my long time group together in person on a visit home. It was great to get together in person, but transitioning from an online game to in person fell flat. We still enjoyed our time together, but my lesson learned is that when you have been playing complex campaign...

What time would you play an evening online 3 hour game session mid to long term?

I assumed that this is not for Friday or Saturday nights. I would prefer mid week, starting at 7 or 8. I would also prefer a 4 hour game over a 3 hour. The ideal would be 7 to 11 pm on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. This assumes online or a short drive from work.

How much would a map cost?

They have an entire forum dedicated to seeking mapmaking services. I've used it twice. I highly recommend checking out the Cartographers Guild's Mapmaking Requests forum: Cartographers' Guild

In-person Game cancelled. What do you play?

I hope you mean the game and not that you hide in your closet fearful of what your absent players are getting up to.

For those who don't play D&D (or its clones), what keeps you engaged with EN World?

What?! Snarfs an EN World treasure! What are you, a bard lover?! ;‑)

How do you handle gems as a GM?

Was the mega-dungeon Rappan Athuk? Sounds like Rappan Athuk. So many times as the GM I would have to determine GP value and write it in the book.

How do you handle gems as a GM?

I state the type of gem it is (unless rare and would require special character knowledge to identify) and describe the cut, color, clarity, and caret weight, which I have carefully logged in spreadsheet. If the characters attempt to sell, trade, or make a spell component of a gem, but fail to...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

You joke, but there are increasingly more and more disposable vapes that don't need to be charged. Unfortunately, I'm sure there are people who are throwing them out the window.

This thread led to me googling Fudge last night. Is this thread a secret Game Necromancer's plot?

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Yeah, that's my personal experience. I picked up smoking again when I was working overseas in an area where smoking was still very common and cheap. I was up to about a pack every two days pretty quickly. I switched to vapes that I would by in the states and bring back with me. It made a big...

For those who don't play D&D (or its clones), what keeps you engaged with EN World?

Is it the long-form, discussion forum format, or mostly just better moderation. Come to think of it, I think good moderation is more effective in discussion board systems. I've been on well-moderated Reddits, for example, but it just doesn't seem to have as much of a positive effect as with a...
