I think 3e is the best version yet, but at heart I'm a gamer. If the only game I could be in was Synnabar, I'd play it anyway.

As a side note, isn't regeneration an Exceptional ability, not Spell-like or Supernatural? Does that matter for your power?

I always try to pimp the Monsters Handbook by Fantasy Flight Games when I can. It's a 3.0 book, IIRC, but I still get a ton of use out of it for homebrew critters. And hey, it's by Mike Mearls, it's gotta be good!

I generally view anything that's immune to crits as not feeling pain. May not be RAW, just my view. I'd say anything above animal intelligence (3 or more) can be reasoned with. Of course, what's reasonable to a 3 INT creature made out of living fire is probably open to interpretation.

I'm not sure I'd say goth. The basic idea is all the players want to destroy the world and redo it in their own image. You use all kinds of icky, Cthulhu-ish critters to bump each other off and collect souls along the way.

We've never really had any trouble with it. In my current game 4 of 8 characters are female, but only one player is. We occasionally have a semi-akward moment with a romantic entanglement, usually with an NPC, but stuff like that usually happens "off camera" for us anyway.

You know, aside from St. George, I can't think of anybody who fought a dragon capable of flying in the open and came out on top. I can't remember if Beowulf fought his in the open, but that was a draw at best.

After the first time the dragon sees the fireball, think about positioning it near several other party members then wailing away on the theurge. The dragon puts itself too close to friendlies for the PCs to use blast magic and eats the theurge in the mean time.

If the idea is you can use pretty much any monster book with no conversions, why would you go changing stuff like that?
