"Some" traditional classes to get the axe - Which ones do you reckon?

What exactly do we know about the nature of PrCs in 4e? I don't recall them being mentioned, but I haven't read every thread here about it. I wouldn't mind having all of those kinds of abilities be all the options they are talking about and doing away with PrCs completely.

I'd like to be excited, but...

True enough... there won't be much to talk about otherwise.

I'd like to be excited, but...

I'll be with you for a while Eric, unless converting my purchased 3.5 modules is easy enough to be fun for its own sake.

There will be no 4.5. It is 4th Edition.

There is another thread about 3.5 and what is/was wrong about it. In short... nothing mechanical about the system itself, but rather the reprinting of 3 year old books to fix fairly minor problems nearly wrecking many 3rd party publishers in the process.

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Presentation videos

Man I'm glad someone else noticed this. It was awful. As you say, perhaps a minor point but not a smart way to introduce things. For one thing, they seemed nervous and even a bit scared. I can understand that in front of what turned into a somewhat hostile audience by the sounds I could hear...

There will be no 4.5. It is 4th Edition.

At least this lets me know that they realize what a horrible mistake 3.5 was... that is a good thing. The problem of course is the turnover at WotC. Even if this guy has some authority to be making this statement, by the time it becomes an issue, he will likely have moved on. Oh well, I'll stay...

D&D 3.x 3.5 is the REAL reason everyone is angry

It wasn't an attempt at a flame war at all, which I think is evidenced by the four pages of the lack thereof. To answer your question, I believe in every fiber of my being that WotC published the 3.5 revision because selling core rulebooks is the surefire way to sell more books. While inviting...

D&D 3.x 3.5 is the REAL reason everyone is angry

I would tend to agree with you and I hope you are right. Certainly much of the appeal to modules is the storyline (at least the good ones) but if a complete redesign of the stats is in order, here's hoping that the DM work is as easy as they are suggesting it will be.

D&D 3.x 3.5 is the REAL reason everyone is angry

Again... this is the opposite of my complaint. Bill Slavisek is essentially saying the game won't be FORWARD compatible... I don't want to get new 4E stuff and convert it back to 3.5, I want to take the Expedition to Greyhawk book I bought last week and be able to convert it to 4E when it is...

These will be easier to create in the new, streamlined edition... can't wait to see them on the digital tabletop!

D&D 3.x 3.5 is the REAL reason everyone is angry

This isn't my point at all. I am fully aware of this. I am pointing out that there is a problem when 4th edition is (according to the developers) so different from 3.5 that conversion will not be worth the effort. These are their words, not mine. Since, by their own wording, this is still...

D&D 3.x 3.5 is the REAL reason everyone is angry

I'm worried about the developers essentially saying "don't bother" when dealing with the issue of converting modules/characters/campaigns from 3.5 to 4. That is why I don't think most of the software or Chaosium comparisons/metaphors work. Hell, even Microsoft lets you convert a file from an old...

D&D 3.x 3.5 is the REAL reason everyone is angry

I'm trying to compose a response but there is so much I am responding to, that I can't seem to organize my thoughts. Thus, I'm simply going to list some points I am attempting to make and leave it at that. *My problems are mainly with 3.5, not the release of 4E. If the reasoning for 3.5's...

The vast majority of WHO? I've played with alot of people that only own a Player's Handbook, I doubt they care one way or the other... allow me some hyperbole.

D&D 3.x 3.5 is the REAL reason everyone is angry

If I played those games and needed to buy new sets of core books to play the game, I'd have a problem with it. Furthermore, it is somewhat excusable for smaller gaming companies to do this as a means of survival, but Wizards isn't a small gaming company. They spent two years churning out...

D&D 3.x 3.5 is the REAL reason everyone is angry

At least that is what still sticks in MY craw. If there hadn't been -that- revision, which amounted to utterly miniscule changes just three years ago, then I would be much more amenable to the idea of 4th edition. The release of 3.5 not only reeked of profit over common sense (let alone...

    Pirate's Guide to Freeport...any good?

Alot of it is re-printed from F:CoA but a good amount of it is brand new. In fact, quite alot has changed in the five years since Freeeport's release. Pramas and co. just flat out know what they are doing IMO. It's a great book, and its essential for a Freeport campaign unless you are just...

    FR Intro Campaign Advice

I thought this was obvious is my first post (and certainly most folks seem to have picked up on it) but let me be less implicit and more explicit. Since I am thinking of running the campaign before the time period of the 1987 Gray Box edition, clearly I am not a FR Canonical worshipper, fanboy...

    FR Intro Campaign Advice

I'm certain that there are plenty of other threads where folks can bash the Realms. The fact of the matter is that I'm going to run a campaign and wanted some advice. If there isn't any more constructive advice, lets just let the thread die, shall we?
