Dealing with a DM who takes things too literally

There's an important aspect of this that's being ignored: The flavor description. The italicized description of Frontline surge doesn't actually use the word "push" at all. For the GM to ignore the description of what the power does in-game and instead derives his descriptive understanding...

    Alternity clone?

The StarCraft boxed set was flawed in a couple of major ways: First, it had all the flaws common to modern basic game/starter set products (No character generation rules, mediocre introductory adventures, limited foe selection, etc.). That might have been okay if WotC had released followup...

Reavers of Harkenwold -- new campaign setting?

The timing, in particular speaks to it being a core adventure rather than a campaign setting specific one--it comes out in February. As for the letter designation, I expect the H stands for heroic, rather than Harkenwold. No opinion on the S.

    Tell me more about GUMSHOE

So, I'm considering reviving the Dark•Matter game that I ran a few years ago. (for those that don't know, Dark•Matter is an occult/sci-fi/conspiracy RPG). While I used d20Modern rules for the old campaign, I want to use a ruleset with less combat emphasis this time around. The GUMSHOE system...

    Favourite non-standard polyhedral

I've always wanted a d12 shaped like a Rhombic Dodecahedron, rather than the pentagon-faced dodecahedron that we usually get.

    Game Transparency

Here The part that catches my attention right away is the cover art. That's a pretty kick-ass piece of artwork--Manages to humorously illustrate a metagame topic while still looking like fantasy art. The article itself is alright. Describes different approaches to transparency without really...

Design a TCG for my TTRPG with me

Asmor's suggestion is nice, but I'd advise either starting with bigger deck rating (say, seven), or drawing enough cards to have at least a five-card hand in the draw phase, even if your deck rating is lower. Never having enough cards to get a flush or a straight would be a bad thing.

Design a TCG for my TTRPG with me

Does it have to be a trading-card game? Three-Dragon Ante is a fixed deck game but it's specifically designed to be a "Game withing a Game" and has optional rules supporting that style of play.

    Best RPGA adventures?

It's worth noting that these were my impressions on the read-through. I don't remember the session itself. Plus, the flaws I harped on are all things that my Living Greyhawk experience has trained me to see as warning signs of more widespread quality problems that I may have simply thrown it...

    Best RPGA adventures?

Alright, here are my impressions of the adventures I've run and/or played: My impressions: ALGA1-1: Run, not played Wasn't impressed. This is one of those adventures that has a long "Adventure Background" section for the GM to read that describes the cause of the challenge that the PCs now...

Dragon Editorial: Players 1, DMs 1

Well, A few DM-specific columns were on the Dungeon side, but there were a lot of DM-focused Articles in Dragon. Paizo actually tried this route with the published magazines a few years back, and sales of Dragon subsequently tanked--Aparently DMs were the core audience of both magazines, so...

    Character Builder Stopped my Son

As someone who's never owned a "class&class" or "complete" book in eight years of 3e, I can pretty safely say that the character builder hasn't kept me from purchasing splatbooks.

Besides that polychromatic dragon, are there any other creatures in the counter collection from sources besides the monster manual?

Do You Enjoy The Rogues New Role?

The trick to playing a skill monkey rogue in 4e is to get into fights less often! It's not as though the 1e thief was busy picking pockets or deciphering script in the middle of a swordfight.

Wilden Name Poll! -- Forked Thread: PH3 Playtest Race: Wilden

I'm definitely a Killoren fan. Wilden just isn't unique enough. I'd be as though we were calling Goliaths "Stonelings", Orcs "Monstroids", and Dragonborn "Dragonborn" Wood Wose, while it draws upon folkloric roots (pun intended), just sounds too "monster manual" for a player race. Besides, I...

Court of Stars: The Prince of Frost

I think the point is that the Eladrin Courts don't go to war with eachother. They go to war with the Fomorians, or the Goblins, etc. The Courts are more like political parties in a democracy--sometimes they work towards opposite goals, sometimes they work towards the same goal, sometimes there...

Court of Stars: The Prince of Frost

Flavor-wise excellent (Written by Keith Baker, so that's par for the course). Tale of tragedy that's perfect for a BBEG fey villian. I'm already inspired to submit my own Court of Stars pitch. From a mechanical standpoint, the Sisters of Lament are handled particularly well: The sisters of...
