    Fiery Dragon -----> Top Notch

This proud owner of the Battle Box and Counter collection would like to second Fiery Dragon's awesomeness. Though my best personal acount is merely "The products I ordered arrived a week ahead of schedule", I've seen the FD guys go far beyond the call of duty to please their customers, both on...

Arcane Power Art Gallery: Welcome back, old friends

In fact, as best I can tell, none of the recycled art we've seen has been in any of the 3.0 core books. Almost all of the re-used pieces in the 4eMM, for example, appeared for the first time in the 3.5 Monster Manual. Which is nice for me, since I never upgraded my MM from the 3.0 version.

Israeli army frowns upon D&D playing recruits

Well thank goodness their irrational bias is only targeted against a small segment of the Role-playing community. That's all right then.

Leveling: Too fast, too slow, or just right?

Games I play in or run tend to be talk-heavy and action light, so without pretty significant roleplaying xp, the 3e model seems too slow.

Stop Combining Words in RPGs! - Let English prevail

But that makes them sound like merely a variety of bear. Owlbear, I think, is superior. I also prefer greataxe to great axe (but war mage to warmage). I don't say "Great Axe", I say "Greataxe" regardless of how the thing is spelled (punctuated?). Likewise, I'd say "Bastard Sword" even if the...

When evil characters make friends :3

In my experience, things work out best if the players know that the character is evil, even if the characters don't. This sort of thing can be pretty fun unless the players are complete failures at keeping player knowledge and character knowledge separate.

    Stop smoking, the D&D way!

EvilHalfling, that reminds me of my cousin Robyn. Rather than caving in to smoking, or taking up some other unhealty vice, Robyn developed a sock habit. Figuring that a pack of new socks was cheaper than a pack of cigarrettes, Robyn never wore a pair of socks more than once. He'd just donate...

    Kobold Quarterly and 4e

I can't speak to Kobold Quarterly, but having been a patron for Wrath of the River King, I can't say that I was ever impressed by Mr. Baur's understanding of the system. I have the feeling his heart just wasn't in it.

How to implement Advanced Classes in a 4e framework

So, I've been juggling around some ideas for a 4e version of d20 Modern recently. Given the importance of multiclassing in d20 Modern, a 4e version needs a way to capture that multiclass feel in a system where 3e-style multiclassing no longer works. my solution: a Heroic Calling. The heroic...

Ingram Sales Numbers of D&D 4th Edition Books

It's worth noting that Ingram distributes primarily to independant bookstores. Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Borders, and the like all act as their own distributors, while Game Stores will get their books through a game distributor like Alliance. So the ingram numbers represent the tiny sliver of...

How to lure the characters onto a lilypad?

What are the PC's speeds while tiny? Because you can reduce a grig's speed to 30 ft just by giving him medium or heavy armor.

    WotC Fall 2009 Catalog report

Thalmin, you need to pick a better day to post. I was combing through your post looking for the joke. For D&D Minis. But my understanding is that most D&D minis purchases are by tabletop players, whereas most SW Minis purchases are by SW collectors who may not even play the minis game.

    Reducing clutter at the table?

Put the battle map and other important game-related stuff on a raised section in the center of a large table, leaving the lowered edges for books and various clutter that such tables accumulate.
