Remove Daily Tracking; Massively Simplify Feat Selection

I do have to refigure AP gain - I'd forgotten just how many feats a PC gets! I think I'll drop feat gain once PCs hit Paragon tier. They can still retrain should a player want a feat for RP purposes - multiclassing, for example. That way AP'll max at 10 (11 for humans). I'll go with setting...

Remove Daily Tracking; Massively Simplify Feat Selection

That's assuming that there are at least 3 combat encounters in the day, and they never think to use the AP for extra standard actions, or for utility powers or magic items. And note they /can't/ use their 5th level daily each time; those work just as encounter powers, so they're once per fight...

Remove Daily Tracking; Massively Simplify Feat Selection

GOAL: There are only three things I dislike about 4e; the glut of feats, tracking daily power usage, and tracking conditions. I've come to terms with the last, through the tools I use for tracking combat. The other two still bug me. I have two houserules, one to handle each. RULE 1: Action...

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L: Mike Lays It All Out

DEFCON 1 Ah, okay then. That, I agree with.

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L: Mike Lays It All Out

Uh, what? I'm not suggesting a change to the d20+mod vs. DC mechanic (What I can only assume you mean by 'base mechanic'), nor am I suggesting feats be 'doppelgangers' of each other. What I'm saying is options need to be close enough in value that they're actually options. Relevantly to this...

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L: Mike Lays It All Out

That rankles against my (and, evidently, a number of others') design sensibilities, though; at any one point in advancement, any two options should be mechanically similar in weight. With +1 to ability scores, half the time there's a direct mechanical effect, and the other there's a delayed...

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L: Mike Lays It All Out

This is the /first/ L&L where I didn't once find myself shaking my head at something he said. I'm pleasantly surprised. I disagree with the "1 feat = +1 to ability scores" bit. If not for legacy reasons, I'd get rid of ability scores and switch to modifiers only. +1 to Strength Mod is easier to...

    RPG Tracker

I'm gonna be checking this out later on. I already have an app I use for this, but I'm always curious about these sorts of things. Quick questions/comments; First, I'd suggest changing the art. That pic on the index looks like the wallpaper for the Butcher of Malakir from M:tG. I highly...

ZEITGEIST Adventure 6 text available for gold subscribers soon. Also, hardcover discussion.

I'd pledge in a heartbeat. I'd prefer the 3-book version, if only because I'd see parts of it earlier. Things that would appeal to me; • More art! • Poster Maps, or high-quality, unaltered digital versions of the maps in the books (no grids, text, etc.) • More chances to name things (I missed...

    Reworking feats?

In my current game, I have a large document that lists every feat that any of my players qualify for. I do this because I play with people not as up on the game as myself; I don't have access to either CB; and I houserule enough that it wouldn't help to have those. For my current game, this is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 4/1/2013

DMZ2112 , No, it's in the paragraph Manbearcat /wrote/, to which you were replying (post 345). That quote's quite pithy, too, with just the first line. Perhaps indicative of how much of the post you read? The full quote, found in post 342, is "...(ii) interpret player's cues when they are...

You show me a computer that can " interpret player's cues..." ( Manbearcat ), and I'll show you a wolf that can juggle.

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 4/1/2013

That''s really beside the point. What I was driving at was narrative control is not a player entitlement issue; it's more about allowing /greater/ story involvement - the opposite of some other poster's claims about 4e's story focus, and certainly counter to your assertions upthread. I like...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 4/1/2013

Remathilis - Narrative Control != "Ignore sense and the GM"; in FATE, narrative control is the entirety of the game, and it clearly works there. It has absolutely nothing to do with player entitlement. EDIT: To expand, narrative control of this sort is a clear way to avoid needing crunch bloat...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 4/1/2013

If you think what Pemerton is advocating is a focus on the tactical miniatures aspect of 4e, or player-DM antagonism, I don't think you've actually read his posts, let alone comprehended them. This is something I've been saying for over a year, now; if you think the Tactical module is what Next...

Druid: Can I wild shape into a mount?

The mount keyword is just a tag to indicate a monster has an effect a player with the Mounted Combat feat can use. It has no bearing on whether riding the creature is actually possible; those are covered only by willingness and size (and DM fiat, of course).

Druid: Can I wild shape into a mount?

(Psi)SeveredHead I'd just like to note that the official rules were changed to allow a PC to ride any creature at least one size larger, so your ruling up there actually isn't any different from RAW. Other than the bit about keeping move actions (I'd require them dropped), I agree with your...

Druid: Can I wild shape into a mount?

Wild shape in 4e is mostly cosmetic, and it's used as a toggle to switch between "spellcastery" druid powers and beast powers. It otherwise doesn't change your stats at all. A mount in 4e terms just has some benefit it can apply to a PC with the Mounted Combat feat, so that's really neither...

D&D 4E Dragon 421 is up! Level-by-level Multiclassing for 4e; Dragonlance Items; Draconian!

HTML pages can't be saved as easily as a PDF, and require all of the page's elements to be saved with it. The long and short of it is that for archiving purposes it'd be a pain. Most modern browsers have a built-in PDF viewing method. What OS and browser do you use on your smartphone? I can...
