    D&D 5E (2014) The Next Generation

No problem, dude, I'm way ahead of you. I've been off the edition carousel for years. To me, "D&D" means certain things (i.e., the things that embodied the game from the start, and that you see as outdated and needing to be swept away in a "Next Generation D&D"). I'll probably always see it...

What type of adventuring do you prefer?

I picked "mega adventure + lots of short adventures," meaning "a mega-dungeon or mega-adventure site + plenty of places/NPCs/etc for the players to run off and do other stuff, too."

    Looking for new RPG

TSR D&D (my favorites are Original D&D and AD&D, but for your purpose, I'd probably recommend the 1981 Basic/Expert sets). Or a clone (Swords & Wizardy, OSRIC, or Labyrinth Lord). Tunnels & Trolls Basic Roleplaying (leaving out some of the more advanced options like hit locations) I tried...

    Recommend: Fantasy RPG without Minis

My picks are: AD&D (1e) or Original D&D Chaosium's Basic Roleplaying (or Stormbringer/Hawkmoon/Runequest) Mongoose Legend (née Runequest II) Rolemaster Tunnels & Trolls Lejendary Adventure

As a player, do you have a preferred gender for your GM?

That's a question I've never considered. Thinking about it, I'd say no, I don't have a preference one way or another.

Are your players usually ok with restrictions?

Yes; I've never had a problem with that.

    Edition reccomendations? (Earlier d&d)

I prefer Original D&D and Advanced D&D (1e). Check out my site for more on why I like OD&D. You might especially be interested in the "dungeon as mythic underworld" and "creating a mythic underworld" stuff. And maybe "considering OD&D" and "making the game your own." Despite my love for...

Are you happy with your current game/edition?

Yes, I'm happy. Original D&D and 1e AD&D have me covered, as far as D&D goes. Then there's BRP/Runequest, Flashing Blades, Traveller, et cetera. The fact is, I've got RPGs that I own and *want* to play and don't have time for. The last thing I need is a new edition of D&D.

Players: Do you wear/carry "props" to the game?

What on earth possessed you to make you do that? (Not the topknot, but playing a kender...) ;)

    My new, old-school experience.

Also, remember that AD&D isn't exactly "unsupported" these days, because of all the retro-clone products. I don't know of a truly comprehensive list, but this one is pretty good: List of Retro-Clone system equivalences and products (And, for OSRIC/1e in particular, this forum thread announces...

I'm Making A New Edition of D&D, What App Should I Use To Create The Rules Document?

Personally, I'd write the copy in plain text using a text editor (not a word processor) and then use publishing/layout software to lay it out. Another option is to write the copy in plain text, but using markup. Then you define your layout with stylesheets. Latex is one possibility, but I...

    Flames of War?

I am having a great time with Field of Glory. The rules are pretty good, and quite playable. The rulebook and army list books are gorgeous, which is nice. One criticism I have of the rulebook is that the organization has associated rules spread out in different chapters without any...

    Flames of War?

I've been tempted to buy the starter set, but have (so far) decided against it. I suspect I'd enjoy it, but right now my wargaming is mostly focused on Field of Glory (Ancients & Medieval). But who knows, with a new edition coming out, they might successfully tempt me.

How do you like your elves?

Thinking about it, more, I'd say I like my elves as monsters, rather than characters.

How do you like your elves?

More like this: Than like this: I like the idea of a strange, even disturbingly alien and fey elf. Not a really pretty and excellent version of a human, but something that is beyond human, and is more likely to drink your wine and steal your baby than sing you a song about trees and...

What's your favorite edition of D&D (so far)?

I'll join the chorus: nostalgia doesn't apply to my D&D gaming. I'm not looking back on fond memories of yesteryear's gaming, or trying to recapture a past experience. I'm having fun gaming, now, even if it's with systems that were published decades ago. (And I'd even say that my games, now...

I'm having a love affair with GUMSHOE

Even if core clues are automatic, there's still an incentive to invest in Search beyond 1 rank because not all clues are core clues. Higher Search skill would still be used for non-core clues, for non-clue situations, and could be used for revealing more information, in addition to the bare...

I'm having a love affair with GUMSHOE

You could do that for non-essential clues, if you like, but I wouldn't recommend it for core clues. Core clues are the clues that you *must* have to progress or solve the mystery. For example, if you can't solve the mystery without finding the secret room in the basement, then at least one...

    "The Hobbit" Trailer

Oddly, it make me want to play a Klingon... ;)
