I run a D&D game every Saturday that starts at 5pm and usually ends around 3am. At this pace it takes us about a year to go from 1st level to Epic. Once we finish the current campaign we are going to alternate between D&D and M&M or D&D and D20M.

No. I've allowed this for a year now and it's had no impact on the campaign whatsoever. None of the players have taken any save feat more than twice. If you decide to allow it, and then see a problem, simply change your mind.

I've used the point buy system the entire time we've played 3E and haven't had a single complaint yet. Heroes are defined by their actions, not by their ability scores.
