Does the Tongues Spell Allow You to Read?

Yep, whichever way you prefer for your campaign. If you make a spell, please post it so we can mock i...I mean comment and steal it. :D

Tell me about L5R the RPG

L5R has a focus on a samurai and honor-based game, but like most games, it can be about whatever the DM and players want. First, go with 4e - unless there's an existing group already playing, then go with they have. The flavor is a matter of taste, although 4e gives you a good starting point...

Does the Tongues Spell Allow You to Read?

I got you and while I don't know of any spell that allows that without "activating" listeners, I pointed out the group version of Tongues and how with a little campaign flavor could do just that. (Everyone hears their own language) On one continent, a French analogue serves as the lower...

Is it time to re-integrate the specific games sub-forums?

Any thought of moving the Legacy > Conversions sub-forum into a full forum? Seems like there's more than just pre 4e/Pathfinder conversions discussed in there already.

Does the Tongues Spell Allow You to Read?

Again, not discussing the rightness or wrongness of your assertion, for me it's too close to a religious discussion (for example, someone who believes they have spoken in or witness someone who did could come by and offer up a spirited rebuttal) and to my understanding, ENWorld would prefer that...

Does the Tongues Spell Allow You to Read?

And were that the ruling at the table, I'd have no objection because I think a case could be made for it (I think a stronger case could be made the other way but neither can be "proven" wrong) that supports that interpretation. One thing I'd caution though - equating spell levels to power...

Does the Tongues Spell Allow You to Read?

I would be careful going with just a RAW approach - we make a lot of assumptions about things in the rules because they are not specifically stated or are worded poorly. The problem is that there are many meanings to the word "understand" - do you comprehend what the words mean, do you...

    :D Irony: The universal language.

Does the Tongues Spell Allow You to Read?

Setting aside the "likely explanation" (too close to a religion discussion), then it's my understanding of the source. The idea being that you were speaking a tongue foreign to you and yet other people could understand it, even if they didn't know it either.

Is it time to re-integrate the specific games sub-forums?

Then I don't think there's much more to be done, in terms of game-specific forums.

    The Walking Dead

I don't think the issue is the effectiveness of the tactic; rather it's if the tactic fits in with the theme or genre. Discussing the merits or effectiveness is a red herring, IMO.

Is it time to re-integrate the specific games sub-forums?

I agree with the above points - it's not so much that 3.5 people hate Pathfinder (although some do) or that Pathfinder people hate 3.5 (although some do), it's that things could be very, very, very confusing for people asking for help/advice. So I'd say: Legacy - ODD/1e/2e/clones 3e...

Does the Tongues Spell Allow You to Read?

If the OP's location is correct, then the OP may be a native-German speaker and trying to understand the nuances of English (and Pathfinder English) rather than wrangling out some sort of lawyerrific advantage. If so, the OP has my sympathies. I wouldn't wish English on anyone.

Does the Tongues Spell Allow You to Read?

Quick guideline when trying to interpret the Pathfinder rules: Context matters more than the definition in the dictionary. In the case of the two spells, tylermalan, I understand your point that when we think of languages, we think of them as also encompassing a written component. But in...

My DM just told me he fudges rolls....

FWIW, I think there can be great non-fudging DMs just as I think there can be great fudging DMs, but that's because I think fudging or not fudging is such an insignificant part of being a DM that all of the other aspects drown it out. And there's been a lot of arguments based on items not in...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo's box of beasts

Did anyone else misread the name of this product? Also, Erik, will this be released as a PDF? I greatly loved the Digital Counter Collection by Fiery Dragon back in the day and have kind of been looking for a Pathfinder take that would allow me to print my own sets up.

My DM just told me he fudges rolls....

That's less fudging and more narrative storytelling, as you point out. Me, it sounds like a first-round TPK in the making, but that's just me. Then as I was walking out the door, I'd say, "Oh by the way? Shane died at the end."

My DM just told me he fudges rolls....

"...that creates really bad habits for both referees and players." How can a DM who is not lazy employ a lazy practice, out of idle curiosity? Under what circumstances can a energetic and/or hard-working DM utilize a lazy practice? Can you give some examples?
