Excising, Severely Limiting, or Strictly Organizing Feats

It goes unsaid that a lot of people would "cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war" over it, but I wouldn't be opposed to this. We already have a lot of choices to make (race, class, theme) and options inside those options (equipment, spells, specializations, fighting style), and what could be...

Excising, Severely Limiting, or Strictly Organizing Feats

Seem that +1 bonus (either permanent or highly circunstantial) is a bad feat, by consensus. But out of curiosity: What is an exemple of a *good* feat? Suppose a party of Fighter, Wizard, Cleric and Rogue.

    Rule of Three: 20/3/12

Seems to me most debates about Alignment revolve around the fact people have different ideas on *how much* aligned is a character. Some think anyone with an alignment hopes to be a Paragon or Champion of that alignment, while others mean their actions just steers in the direction that...

    Rule of Three: 20/3/12

Most people I played with ended up with Chaotic Good because of the lack of an explicit Unaligned... alignment. They want to be good (as all heroes are), or at least not evil (less problem with authorities), but not abide to the laws of some crazy tyrant overlord. And some players chose True...

    Rule of Three: 20/3/12

Regarding minions and complexity, why are we assuming there's only going to be *one* type of orc in the MM? Why not have a statblock for a simple, will-be-a-minion-later, orc and a standard orc warrior, with 2 or 3 different attacks and tactics? People who want a simpler game, with no minis...

    D&D 5E (2014) Levels and Spell Levels - what's your preference for 5E?

I'm divided between 4e style and previous editions. While I prefer the spell level = level you can cast it, the lower granularity of 1-9 makes it easier to compare spells and remember them. I just don't like calling cantrips "0 level spells". Makes me think of level zero characters, and that...

    Alignment in D&DN...

Codes of Conduct, Aspects or even a simple Vice/Virtue (like in WoD2) would probably work better as roleplaying crutches, but I think we should have the iconic alignment system in D&D, be it classic 3, 9 or 5. Even though a lot of people complain about them, it's clear there are lots of people...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should the +1 Sword Exist in 5E?

Sometimes you just want to award a player with something that is both meaningful and irrelevant to the campaign, so yes. Just not too much more than +1.

    Level Titles

They look cool but, really, just NO. I think Prestige Classes, Paragon Paths, Epic Destinies and whatnot do a much better job to describe a character, mechanically and fluff-ly, instead of "forcing" a title into a character that may as well be doing the same thing since last level... They...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next weekly art column!

Well, I actually would like to see that. I mean, not 99%, but farmers tending to crops, graveyards and funerals, a coronation cerimony, priests lecturing, apprentices cleaning the shelves of wizard libraries... how long has it been since we saw a damsel in distress?

L&L: The Challenges of High Level Play

what's up with the last week poll results? how are we suppose to know what those numbers mean? 0.o?

    Spells: The Essentials

You know, I could see that happening. :) And in the movies, when Frodo used the One Ring he sort of walked into another plane - what if that plane was devoid of (breathable) air? Or was so dangerous you couldn't stay there for long without some sort of (high level) protection? X-Men's...

    Opposed Rolls?

It does take time, but only if used ALL THE TIME. I can some situations where it would come in handy, obvious ones like arcane duels and stealth, but also something that occurred frequently when I DM for new players: "the goblin shoots a dagger in your direction" As DM roll the dice, the player...

    D&D 5E (2014) How should 5E handle healing?

IIRC, Healing Surges were a dealbreaker to a lot of people when 4e launched, but I like them. IMO, the balance they introduced in the game excells most complains I've heard/read. I'd like them to come back in a way or another, but with a different name attached.

    Spells: How Many Levels?

I voted for 4e style, though I imagine we won't see that (due to old edition feel), but I'm not bothered with 9 spell levels. And I like the 9/7/5 level limits too.

    Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Being 3rd person is what makes me consider it over Skyrim, as I can't seem to get used to that format (and IMO Skyrim in 3rd person plays..., idk, weird) I played the demo on my x360, and really enjoyed it, despite my initial lack of faith. I think it's worth checking. :) But after reading...

Coaxing the new player to the table

    * lend her a D&D book, like the PHB - or preferably a Red Box (any introductory module). * ask her if she'd like to watch a game before playing, just to see what's that about. * in between your classes, help her through character generation. It might get her attached to the character, and she'll...

    dwarf as a class

I think this is probably right. But I don't think it will make DnD classless though.

What name would you like the next iteration of D&D to bear?

If it's too much like videogames, Dungeons & Dragons: Origins, because Dragon Age was successful, right? ;) But if it's too much anime, then it should be Dungeons & Dragons Z, which worked for Dragon Ball... ;) ok, I'll stop crapping on this thread. :D Anyway, I vote for no qualifier as well...
