Jester: You are probably right, from a simplicity factor as well. What I will do is give them +2 to DEX and -2 to CHA (instead of STR, that hard life is gonna make them strong), that should be just fine.

You can also add a class level to your dog. My halfling Snow Barbarian's War Dogs get the War Beast Template and a level of fighter just to get the BAB + and a extra feat to represent training. Since Handle Animal is NOT in the SRD hmm... that would improve their FORT saves... Have to remember...
